Got an email from our pro shop saying that players should get their clubs regripped after every 40 rounds.

I bought my clubs 2nd hand about 9 months ago, they still have the original grips on them. I must have played the equivalent of 50 rounds since I got them and I have no idea how old they are (am guessing 2-3 years old).

Will it make a big difference to my game if I get them regripped, and how often do you get your done?

I bet that I have played about 100 rounds with my current grips and have not had any thoughts about changing them at the moment. They are still "grippy" enough, especially after they have had a clean. Mine are about 4 years old and came new with my clubs.

When they wear out and are no longer grippy (is this a word?) or have chunks missing. Could be months or years - generally years.

I try to play 3-4 times a week in the summer. Usually only get 2 games a week in the winter if I am lucky but I tend to regrip just in time for the new season to start. I like buying new grips for my clubs, makes them feel new again.

Never.. At the rate I change clubs the problem has never arisen.. :D. If I was to guess then I'd say every 2 years, or 100-150 rounds.. The only exception is the Driver which get re-gripped every year as it's the one club that gets the guts put into the swing...

Yes it will definitely make a difference. How much of a difference will vary, but new grips will be softer and easier to grip with less tension in the hands and arms, so in theory will help a more relaxed swing.

Depends on the wear of them for me, I refuse to regrip the whole set based on forty rounds though . More likely to regrip just the most used, after all some of the clubs wouldn't have been used even forty times based on that .... so are they saying the grips simply fall to pieces?

Anyway if you keep them clean then they'll last much much longer.

making me wonder what some of you guys a going with the grips to wear them out so quickly?

Irons only just over a year old and no wear to speak of and i play a lot, in excess of 100 rounds a year, wedges had since 2010 and only minimal wear. only thing ive changed is the putter and that only because it split a bit.

I tend to re-grip my irons, wedges, driver and fairways every couple of years, or sooner if I think they need it.

For the putters, I have just regripped mine and you don't realise how much the grips have hardened up till you put on a nice new tacky Winn AVS Midsize.

I tend get my grips from either Golfgrips-direct or Gamola Golf from their Clearance department. They both have some great deals online.

as a norm at least 3 or 4 times a season (the 'old' ones are taken off and given away to youth level golf projects)

replacement is not down to wearing the grips out, but even if grips are wiped dry, cleaned, after each use and stored well in constant room temperature with reasonable humidity levels they still dry out and the nature of their composition changes

Just ordered a few now to re grip my driver and a few irons. Clubs are a year old

I am looking at getting mine done as a couple are getting a bit shiney now - probably a little over 2 years use / 120 ish rounds

However last season we had one of the club cleaning guys at the course on a medal day and i had the grips done and they felt rejuvenated so maybe it extended their life a bit.

Driver and wedges every year, just been done. Irons every second year if I have them long enough.

Putter every year, just been changed.

I use to do it every year but now I follow the mantra of wise old Tommo, except for the putter, and do just the wedges and driver every year and the irons bi-annually. I figure the wedges and driver are the most used and so it makes more sense and with the short game work I've been putting in you can see the wear on them quite readily

Irons twice a year & normally news irons every 2 year, driver & 3 wood at least 3 times year again news clubs every 2 year or sometimes a bit more witht he woods.New gloves every 2-3 weeks

I change my grips about every two years, if I keep the clubs that long. I normally play 3 or 4 times a week. You can keep them fresh by occasionally scrubbing them in warm soapy water, and by sandpapering them to remove the top layer of perished rubber.
