Following on from the other thread.

After buying a re-gripping kit from Gamola Golf and a small vice from Aldi (£4.99) I had a go at this and now do all of my own grips and my mates, only takes about 10-15mins per club to remove the old and put the new one on. Dont know why but I get a sense of acheivement from it! :)

Do you do yours? or cant be a**ed and give it to
your local pro.

Can't be bothered. I can do it and do it well but really don't have the inclination. My pro is pretty good and if I want something he doesn't stock he'll let me order and then charge me for his time to put them on.

No I have no idea how and knowing my DIY record would end up having to pay a pro to remove my attempt and do it properly!

On the subject I'm going to get mine done soon anybody have any suggestions on grips?

Want something colourful but not flashy if you know what I mean.

Have done my own in the past. It isn't that difficult and will still do the odd one if I had to. Local golf shop will do them for not much more than the cost of the grips though so I generally get them done there now.

Can't be arsed. My local range charges me anywhere between free and £2 to do a whole set of irons, so it's really not worth my time to do it when I can get them to do it for me.

always do my own - (well my woods , 1i & putter) :) irons will need doing soon surely ;)

but my other sets previously i've done

I do my friends if they need it

picked it and other club repairs up from hanging around the pro shop as a junior and watching how it was done and assistants were happy to show us.

Then obviously as an assistant myself did it as part of the job

tbh dont really need a vice to do them

and i still do it now because i like to know its done to my standard (my 2nd set of irons will need doing when i use them as the grips that were on when i got them, werent put on as straight as i would like)

i also like doing it myself because i just plain enjoy doing them :)

I've done few odd clubs and would definately think about doing a set, especially as some places (e.g. Gamola) do some very good deals.

Re using a vice, I use my old B&D Workmate. It has grooves along the inside edges of the wooden vice parts and as you can tighten the ends independently it is great for holding a club with a tapered shaft. You can use bits of old grips to cushion where it grips the shaft. I then use a t-square to check the face is square when fitting the grips (hope that makes sense).

I had Blue Multicompound grips on both sets of my Mizuno irons and they are fantastic and after two seasons are still almost as good as new. The rest I have got from Gamola golf who offer a good range, price and delivery. http://www.gamolagolf.co.uk/acatalog/GolfGrips.html

I like the Multicompound grips and have started using the Sharpro grips which are about £2.70 ish opposed to £6.50ish for the Golf Pride grips which appear to be the same.

Before doing it myself I used to do a 40mile round trip and wait to get them fitted.

As much as I love my Mizuno M-21's, I tried out a mate's Mizzy's (MP-52's) and he had them fitted with the Mizuno branded Blue Multi-compounds and they were lovely.

If I'd tried them out a couple of weeks earlier, I'd probably have stumped for these instead. I will definitely be going to these next season/later this season if the M-21's don't last that long.

Aztecs, notice that you are from Gloucester, have you found that Golf Factory shop on Barnett Way by Sainsbury's?

Yea, it's not bad in there. Al lthe clubs, from what I can tell, are second hand. Dunno about their services for re-gripping or custom fitting or if they're any good. But They have some pretty good deals on clothes from time to time.

Always do my own because i have go the grips cheaper through ebay in the past. However, most places charge so little that i wouldn't object to the local pro doing them depending on how long i had to leave the clubs with them.

The worst part i find is getting the old tape off.
