Having booked the Twenty Ten course for 3weeks time and just looked at Rick's pictures It's like waiting for Xmas day!! It looks absolutely superb.

As I have the Golfshot App and planning my way round, however I remember the 15th vividly, do you go direct for the green or lay up to the left? 18th Do you go for it in two? etc etc.

One other question, can you go from the White's or do you have to play from the Yellow tees?

I played it in October 2010 when it was still soaking wet.
I loved the course it was in great condition considering what it had been through (you couldn't even tell that 100's of people had trampled all over the 17th green).

As it's not everyday you get to play a course like that I'd say go for the green on 15 and if you are in decent position go for the 18th in 2. In fact my playing partners, who layed up on 15, thought that seemed a tougher route for getting to the green as the optimium lay up area isn't all that large.

As for the tees we played off yellow as no others were out that day.

The most memerable things for me about the course wereplaying to my then handicap of 5, birdieing the 17th, birdieing the 9th and driving the 15th off the very back tee's (since no one was watching I decided I had to give it a go).

Thanks for the feedbacck Gil.

I think I will be going for the green, just like the 10th at the Brabazon you just have to go for it!

How much did you pay for your round if you dont mind me asking? I have paid £80 to play mid Feb and tbh would not pay anymore than that to play anywhere.....unless it was Augusta or Pebble Beach!!!

It was part of a Golfbreaks deal. B&B, played Monty & 2010 for not much more than £100 iirc.

I actually quite the Monty when I played the Roman Road with a stay over last year. Was very impressed with the Monty but not the Roman.

The hotel and staff were superb and the breakfast was fit for a King!!

The 2010 is great! I really like the stretch of holes round the lakes in the middle of the course - 6th/11th/12th/13th/14th are special!
You have to go for the 15th...looks easier than laying up as that is the long way round and is tricky!!
18th is a big hit in two for anyone!!

I played it about a month ago. It was wet in parts but overall in very good condition.

When you arrive they'll show you to the locker room and your locker for the day. I had the one with a plaque with Zach Johnsons name on it. You are looked after well by the staff, you're ferried to the driving range where they give you complimentary balls, and when you finish they take your clubs off you and give them a bit of a clean before returning them to you.

You have to go for the 15th. I managed to hit the green and just missed the eagle putt. The 16th is monster especially if it's into the prevailing wind. Good luck in going for the 18th in two, its surprising how long the second shot is!!

Have been down there twice, we really liked it. Unfortunately, both times we went it was hammering with rain and howling wind.......very tough in those conditions. We also played the Monty which I thoroughly enjoyed too. The hotel setup is good, the concierge were very helpful. I had Rory's locker and would go again.

On the 12th, one of my buddies played his second shot over the water and managed to do a "ducks and drakes", must of skimmed the ball three or four times over the water before it dived into the water on the far side. Thought it was lost, but actually found it sitting up in the reeds, he played the ball only to sh*nk it 90 degrees right back into the water

Don't recommend you play it like that......

It still amazes me that even though you're members of the other two courses, it's still a bit "them and us".

Weird.

I played it in Oct 2009, it was pretty much bang on a year before the Ryder Cup and the 2010 course was amazing. We played the Monty on the Saturday, I love the 3rd hole, amazing views.

We'll deffo go back.

It is just that. We don't get any concessions to play on the bottom course, if you get invited down by someone who is a member of the Twenty Ten then you'll get a discount on the green fee. Otherwise it's the full rate. It would be nice if they turned round and said that we could have 'x' number of rounds at a discounted rate because we're members of the other two courses.
If you're a member of the Twenty Ten then you are also a member of the Roman Road and the Montgomerie courses.

I played there in the summer, it was a good experience, but I didn't think it was worth the money...

good points: - staff/service and atmosphere were excellent
- practice facilities
- club house

bad points: - had to play from yellow tees - which makes it too short
- Took us 5hrs 45mins to play, we waited on every hole, no course marshall
- Rough too long in places, groups in front spending ages looking for balls
- Course wasn't in best condition, overall I just didn't think it was worth the money

I played in August and thoroughly enjoyed it. Having been to the Ryder cup it was nice to be able to stand there 12 months later with the images in your head.

The course was in excellent condition except for the greens. They were a little long and bumpy. The major disappointment was having to play from the yellows which shortens the course a great deal.

I play off of 4 and was -2 through 7 but bogeyed 8 and 9. Finished 6 over. Hit it pin high on 15 but ball was buried in rough and couldn't even get it on the green from 3 yards! Went for 18 in two and put it in the green side bunker.

Overall a good day out, hope you enjoy it!
