Becasue it was mentioned in the Women in Men's Competitons thread: just out of interest, how many greens can you hit in regulation on your home course? I don't mean, how many do you normally hit, but how many can you reach if you hit one, two or three good shots?

I play off 32.5 at the moment. On our course, I can reach 2 of the 3 par 3s (and the third one if I give it a really mighty hit with my driver in summer and it rolls on), 3 of the par 4s (but again, only with really good hits of driver plus 3wood) and maybe one of the par 5s (even though I never actually managed it, but I have been in the greenside bunker one or two times with my third, so I guess I could theoretically get there). But in all those cases (except for the two shorter par 3s) it means going for the longest clubs in my bag and smashing the hell out of them (which is why I normally don't bother and rather put my extra shots to good use).

I could POTENTIALLY hit all 18 greens.

There's 3 holes that are challenging to hit, our 6th is 420 long but requires you to lay up which normally leaves around a 220/230 yard shot in, takes two very good hits in winter to get there, in summer you can normally hit a long iron and it feeds in to the green.

Our 12th is 440 long, narrow and uphill, in to wind it's 2 very good hits again in to a stupidly narrow and tough green.
Our 13th is a 195 yard blind, uphill par 3. Although you should get around it I have never managed to tackle it in the 2 years of being there. Probably hit it about 3 times in comps

Our 2 par 5's make up for it however as you can easily hit one of them in 2 and the other one is doable in 2 as well although I normally try and play 3 sensible shots.

I can reach all of them in reg, but I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of times I have achieved it on 3 of the holes. I'm not sure if I've ever achieved it on those particular holes off the white tees.
I play off 22

Really conditions dependant on ours- on a warm summers day all 18 are pretty achievable with a decent strike.

on a blustery day our 17th plays like a par 5 even though it's only 393 yards- it's usually a strong wind direct into your face and 2nd shot is about 30 yards above fairway. Our 18th (454) and 3rd (436) can be pretty long holes too but wind usually helps on those holes

My wife's off 32 similar to you. She's only just starting to hit the Big Dog (driver) and is really starting to get the bug for golf.
Distance and power seems to have turned the light on maybe. Before now she's just done it because I'm into it really.
She's wickedly good (for her stage) with her 4 & 5 hybrids off the deck and decent iron player.
So she's now realised she can reach 8 of the 18 holes in regulation.
She's also recently found great form with the short game so I'm in for a year of being beaten up I reckon! Lucky me!

Personally with a good tee shot I can reach all 4 par 5s in two, but our 15th is really long tough 2-shotter - hard as a lot of undulation towards the target. So gets too risky taking a line into the green from >220 yards back protected by trees, slopes and bushes, and exposed to wind and elevation changes, so I have a rule that if I'm not in a particular position I do not go for it. Although I've been playing since I was 14 and can strike it reasonably - I'm amongst approx. 20 max. golfers in my club who could reach that green in two. A few of our past club champions swear that they never try to reach it in two.

It's strange on our course as we have a hole that's only 409 from the back tees but is incredibly hard to find the green in two, slightly uphill, usually into wind. I've hit Driver + wedge and Driver + 4 iron within a day of each other... and all decent shots - bizzare!

With the others it really depends where I put the tee shot, being on or near the fairway is sometimes not enough on a few holes on my course.
Many times when you have to play right or left or short of the green, and hope you catch a piece of it or can get up and down.

I guess that's the story isn't it - figuring out what you can realistically achieve and play your own game?
You are right though, just stay relaxed and hit the best shots you can. Stay reasonably aggressive at conservative targets and the score will come to you.

In the normal prevailling conditions, there are 4 longer Par 4 holes between our 2 x18 hole courses that I normally don't reach in regulation, altho in favourable conditions then I can reach all 36 holes on both courses.

Great thread. 4 out of the first 9. Probably the same on the back 9. That includes 4 x par 3's. I might be underselling myself slightly but mine is quite a long course, not silly but a good test. On a number of holes I may be within 20-30yds of the green but that is not GIR so that is the honest answer.

If I'm hitting it well I can reach them all in regulation. There's probably only one that proves consistently difficult but I've hit it with as little as a six iron off a good drive. Muck up the drive on that hole, though, and there's no chance.

That article on the other thread was bonkers. There's already too much pandering to the weakest players when positioning women's tees IMO.

Purely on distance and with zero wind I can reach all but 1 of our holes in regulation but can reach none of the 3 par 5's in two.

With a more typical wind I there is one more par four that is out of reach for me.

I can hit all of ours quite comfortably but in reality i dont hit nearly enough, and its what ill be really concentrating on improving this year. One of our par 3s i dont actually aim for the green, there is so much trouble left and right that the sensible play is to knock it up short then putt on, putt for par or take a bogey at worst. Ive seen (and made) 7s by people going for the green and missing either side

With a good drive I can reach all the Par 4's and Par 5's in 2 and none of the Par 3's require anymore than a 6 in normal summer conditions. Distance is not my issue, controlling it is.

In theory based on the distance of the holes all of them.

In reality based on bunker placement and wind direction etc we have 2 par 4's (one about 460 and one usually 480-490) that are difficult to reach in 2, for me at least as I can't carry the trouble with driver so need to lay up.

If we're playing off the Blue tees (only a couple of comps a year) then the 9th can be hard to reach also as usually into the wind and the 11th changes from a par 5 to a par 4 (about 490ish)....

Based on a decent drive I should hit them all, but that's never the case, on average and if I had to bet on myself I'd say I hit 8 comfortably which includes our par 3's, this is why I can par 6-9 holes per round but the bogeys & doubles undo all that good work, also, if an errant drive or poor second shot shot occurs within those specific 8 holes it will mean a worse overall score as I won't make them up on the tougher holes.

There's still a small handful of holes that I haven't even parred in a comp yet as they are a bloody good drive followed by an even better fairway wood and unless I can chip close to the pin for a single putt they've got bogey written all over them with no room for error, should my drive or fairway wood go wrong or I find trouble (bunker) I'm then left with a must get up & down!

There are 3 par 4's at our place that I can't hit the green in regulation on. SI 1, 3 and 5. hole 13(SI 1) is a 419 dog leg left where you are forced right by a fairway bunker. It usually leaves about 220-240yds uphill into the green. it's a bit of a pain! hole 15(SI 3) is a 432 yd long par 4 it's dead straight but uphill and has a row of bunkers right in front of it making a roll onto the green all but impossible for me. Hole 17 (SI 5) is a 416 yrd par 4. The first shot is about 160-180 yds drive over a lake. I usually have to bail out to the fairway to the left which leaves me almost 250 yds to the green. Last summer I started clearing the lake, but I've still never been on the green in two. The front and left of the green is guarded by like 4 bunkers and you'd have to clear them and get the ball to stop dead on the green in order to hit GIR. very tricky for a higher handicapper like myself.

All of the holes on our course are reachable, and on my best day there are 7 of them that I have reached in 1 under regulation (all four par 5s and 3 of the par 4s). In a comp round Im unlikely to take on any of the par 4s off the tee but will expect to get to 2 or 3 of the par 5s (IF i drive it ok)

Should reach all of them really but the last hole which is a par 4 is difficult. About 200 yards for your second and its normally a left to right wind. And if you don't hit a good drive its a blind shot over the hill. I would seriously say I've probably only hit it 4/5 times in reg and that is with amazing shots. Haven't par'd the hole in absolutely ages and I would take 5 on the tee box every day of the week.

So if you are saying distance wise, I can reach all of them. But realistically I do not expect to reach the the 18th in reg even with two good shots.

Our 4th is 450 uphill and I can't get there.

To make matters worse. It has a nasty slope across it which means that getting the ball on the correct tier is tricky, but pretty much essential for the two putt bogey.

I can reach them all but one is a big ask, our 475 yard par 4 has a ditch that needs a good hit to carry, if you lay up you're looking at 220ish for your second.

All of them and 3 out of 4 par 5's in two. If my irons are off form I might not hit any though (hence the change to gi irons)
