Played at Hillside Golf club today in a seniors open comp can't believe I found 16 balls while I was helping my partners find there balls in the ruff although the ruff wasn't that bad, by the way I lost 3 and finished with 35 point so all in all not a bad day. :D

At the start of the year I was having a quiet 9 just meandering round the casual course and walked around the edges of the once waist height rough. I managed to find 38 balls... more than 3 dozen no more than a yard in. Once I took oit the Pinnacles and Top Flites I was still left with 27, so some good additions to the praccy bag.

my record is 43, Old Thorns 1991.

that was just the first 18 - but that's another story.

this excludes the specific forays from time to time in specific areas - these deliver over 100 per area - or water recovery session.

Spcific areas can be awesome. We have one right of the 3rd fairway that juat swallows any stray shots. A brief walk will yield a dozen or so once the rough dies down.

Just last week i found 13 balls under one tree all new nike balls. I thought it was strange because the base of the tree was bare . I handed the balls in to the club shop incase they fell from someone's bag.

I tend to total up what I find every few months.

I sold the last 100 off about 6 months ago. Since then my collection has been steadily growing again.

So far....…

Many many years ago I found about 40 in the roots of a tree in the edge of the woods off the fairway at Hainault Forest GC. Started to pick them up and put them in my bag (I was about 17 and skint) when I got hit on the head with a ball - squirrel then attacked me from the branch above me - he must have been collecting them and I was nicking his stock
God knows what he was going to do with a load of Wilson Ultras and Slazenger B52s ?

We played The Jubilee Course in April and a member was on a green with his black lab snuffling around in the gorse/heather/clag. I asked him if he finds golf balls and he said "aye, about 20 per round but his record is 40". We chatted a while and he said in summer when the course is full of yanks who have more money than golf ability they are 95% Pro V's...doggie more than earns his keep!

any i find go into the juniors box, 26 in 1 round just searching for the grandsons.

Juniors have more money than the members here ! They also turn their noses up at anything other than new ProV1s. AND they get their membership cheap and paid for by mummy.

Jealous, me ...?

I played a course on holiday where there was a rather intrusive bush within shanking range of the tee (where I stuck 2 ... I was having a bad day) I tried to have a look but said bush was very dense and grew right down to the ground.
Later on in the round, I realised that we had doubled back and were now running parallel to the Bush of Doom on the way to the next tee at a slightly lower level. From this side the bush was in shade and was scrawny and open...There were my 2 errant balls and a couple of dozen others. Bag topped up to cover me for the rest of the holiday!

Fully clothed during a round of golf 33

As a lad in bare feet and shorts and walking about in a somewhat shallow muddy lake at 3am.....

800

When I gave up golf in 2001 I took 11,000 balls to the tip

My old course has/had frogmen that came in every 6 weeks or so to clear the 14 ponds and let's say they never left empty handed!

One day I found a spot to the right of the 13th less than 100yards from the tee where I picked up about 25 I had to jump the stream 3 times because I couldn't fit any more in my pockets!

Last week playing I found every gorse bush playing in Scotland. Went to find my ball. No chance but found about 30 more by the end of the round. I ended up with around 10 decent pro V1 and a few decent others but 10 practise bag balls.

As a newbie golfer - what is deemed correct etiquette on "liberating" balls you find?

A few weeks ago I had a playing lesson and left a club by the side of a green so had to walk back to the hole to get it. En route I spied a Taylor Made ball which had obviously been left for lost, as there was no one around anywhere near the hole. I left it where it was because I thought it would be poor form to pick it up!

As long as you're sure nobody's walking towards it to play it or pick it up, trouser it!
