.....you give yourself to decide on your new putter?

I was using a MD nv drew series connemara putter and have started using an Odyssey white hot xg sabretooth and they couldn't be any different. I have no distance control and my accuracy wasn't an issue, if anything this makes it worse. I had no reason for changing other than fancying a higher spec putter from a putter manufacturer and this one came up. I've had 2 rounds ans 2 sessions on the outing greens.

What do your guys think, leave it in the bag or go back to the connemara?

I bought a new one a month ago...
have just taken the old one out the junk bag and its going out to play tomorrow

a month seems long enough to see if it works - and it isnt, so back to my old trusty one! ;)

With most clubs it can take a week or 3 to work them out but a putter should feel right almost immediately in my view.
felt right in the shop, felt right first time out..doesnt feel right now! so i'm swapping it out ;)

if i was you i'd spend a few hours on the putting green, then maybe even a putting lesson if your struggling and see how you feel after that?
nope - am going back to the old one - have spent a month on courses and hours putting with it - and it just doesnt feel right! the old one is grand ;)

Putter is a club I don't look to change... Had my Zebra for years... Updated to a newer version with a face insert and struggled with distance control...

Putters are like shoes if they ain't comfortable from day one then I'd rather not bother with the pain waiting for them to get right...

I gave my last one 4 rounds. Should never have changed but loved the look of the Mizuno putter so had a punt. It is a great club but just did not get the ball in the hole as well as my older Taylormade Fontana so it has gone to a new home where it will be better appreciated.

As Imurg says. A putter has to work from the first ball. Putting is a whole different game from the rest of it. It just has to work and feel right from the off.

I am convinced those putting areas at AG channel down to the holes, the ball always seems to go in. When you buy the putter and take it out it never seem as good.

indeed! I'm blaming direct golf for having some sort of trough so the ball will go in the hole and you will buy it! they fooled me into buying it!!! ;)

i think the course isnt the place to get used to a new putter, needs to be the putting green or the corridor at home

You need to put in the effort of making 10 3ft putts, then 10 4ft putts, then 10 5 ft putts, and see how it takes.
Once you have done that you can then decide whether you like it or not.
Putters are all weighted differently, face balanced, slight toe weighted, very toe weighted.
you just need to give it tiem of proper practice

I think you are having a laugh :D

Until you have hit 1000 putts that matter you really can't have a clue how the combination of you, and a putter, can really perform.

1000 putts, WOW. That would have been circa 20 rounds with my connemara during a poor (but not horrific) run

I did circa 200 to 300 in 30 mins in teh cirridor this evening - you need to make them pressure putts . I.e. you cant go give up and go and get a glass of win / watch telly until you have made 10 consecutive putts at whatever length you are working at. Even at 4ft the 8th, 9th and 10th certainly becmoe pressure putts. And then it REALLLLY p**ses you off when you start missing them on teh 3rd and 4th .

You can easily do a 1000 putts in a week

You want me to play 600 holes to find out if a putter works or not?

I think someone else is having a laugh......

I usually buy from a pro shop or outlet that has a proper putting green to try them on. I've been known to go back several times and try the same model if I'm unsure. Even a fairly middle of the road putter is the best part of £100 these days and so it has to be something you have confidence in.

I keep looking at these new Odyssey milled models and yet the 30 year old Anser still keeps doing the business and so its hard to justify a change right now. I actually don't like the new milled Anser range or their ones with inserts and so there isn't much out there that catches my eye.

I dont think actual putters matter that much. Its all about your mental approach and your putting stroke imo.

To Me, putters are SO Personal, and Putting is almost a whole new game in itself
If u pick up a putter, I normally know just by gripping / making a swing (stroke ) if Im going to get on with it, before even striking a ball
30 mins on the practice putting green, and its bought or put back in the rack......simple
Then Id try and give it another session before using in a comp
Ive gota few putters, when I 'fall out' with them, dont always sell on, resale values poor, and NO real bad putters ( clubs ) just bad putting days.....;)
