On the back of my breaking 90 thread. It got me wondering how long you guys had been playing before you broke 100, 90, 80 or better? Or is anyone stuck and not able to get there yet?

Cheers

Stuck trying to break 100, have played around 20-30 round's over two year now and still struggling with consistency, each round one thing improves while another gets worse.

100 - Probably a few weeks as initial handicap was 16
90 - 1-2 months maybe
80 - 1-2 years (74 gross in club championship when I was 24)
70 - about 20 years and counting (15 yrs ish if you count the years when I didn't play).

Its scary to think that I achieved my PB gross score in under 2 years. I only repeated that score on the same course in 2011 some 16 years later!

Being a late starter i was dead chuffed that I broke my 100 barrier within a few months scoring 95. Looking as though i was going to break 90 very soon I was really enjoying my golf.

Instead almost 18 months later I have regressed to struggling to break 100 again. Mainly due to a lot of stupid mistakes.

Heres hoping that with the winter season coming in after some practice at the range I will be bouncing back next year!

Under 100 - 8/10 months
Under 90 - 2 1/2 years (earlier this year)

And since having 4 sub 90 rounds over the summer, I've slowly added 0.1 onto my handicap every game I've played. RUBBISH!

Started playing golf about 2 1/2 yrs ago ,
PB 82 2 weeks ago :)
Hole in one last April
Eagle on a par 5 about 3 months ago
and yesterday par 4, 394yrs , good drive down the middle followed by a wedge 145yrs into the green and rolled in for my first eagle on a par 4. :D

Now aiming for 80 or under .

I don't play often enough to continuosly break 100 unfortunately. Started to make more par's and the odd birdie but not playing enough to keep going. Infact recently I feel like I've taken a step backwards instead of moving on.

Broke 100 in first round

got stuck in mid 90's for about 10 rounds

the day I broke 90 I also broke 80

yet to break 70

shot par a couple of times but have never been under par for 18 (have manged to shoot -4 for a 9 hole knock)

Long time lurker, first time poster so first of all hello everyone!

The above post pretty much sums up my game over the 5 years or so since I started playing. Only played a handful of times a year and amongst the dross there was the occasional decent hole but scores were always 100+. Decided that this year I wanted to play more regularly and concentrate on trying to improve. Spent the winter watching a lot of Youtube videos and trying to absorb information from sources such as this forum and then trying to work on things at the driving range. First round of the year was a 99 so was off to decent start.

However in about another dozen rounds I couldn't break 100 again. Started to think about taking lessons (as plenty have suggested on here) and realised that a local driving range did a beginner's course for free. Signed up for it at the beginning of August and got things like my grip, posture etc sorted out. Things felt very different and took a bit of time by myself at the range and I had a couple of fairly poor rounds trying to work on the new stuff. However it feels as if things are now beginning to click and on Saturday I shot an 87 :D

It took me around 18 months to finally break the 100 but then i deployed to Afghanistan for 7 months. When i came back i really struggled and it took me a while to get under 100 again. I now get anything from 95-105 when i play regulary. I think I am within touching distance of breaking 90 but need to concentrate a little more and stop making silly errors. On a psitive note got my first hole in 1 two weeks ago!

didnt even think about 'landmarks'.......I just played golf and tried to get better, win a medal, reduce handicap and hit the ball the way I wanted to hit it....

I had three consecutive rounds under par once, but it was at La Cala in Spain with glorious weather and no comp card in hand but I suppose that was a landmark of sorts

Second season I finally broke 100.
Since then I'm there or thereabouts with several disaster scores on the card.
My first <100 had six 7's on the card.
Recently I had 12 shots to break 100 with just the 17th (par 4) and 18th (par 3) to play.
I used them all up on the 17th !
However I recently shot 91 with a few "disaster" holes and you know what happens - you look at each hole and say "If only...I could have....."
I play too much social/match play where your ball gets tapped back off the green or the guys walk if the hole is over.

I'm starting to understand that short game is critical.
This week I added to my TM Burner clubs two <£10 wedges, 60 and 64 at Sports Direct
I figured nothing to lose to try and experience them.
Used them Sunday and my fc's commented on my bunker play and greenside chips.

Our number 2 and 3 pros have just offered 10 lessons for £100 - limited number.
I'm bagging it.
