Played our matchplay doubles today, One of the opponent used aim point and took a life time. One putt took him just short of 6 minutes, going to each side of the hole several times even before marking his ball.9 hole took 3 hours.and he never looked back once to see how many people he was holding up.
even if his approach was 40 yards short of the green he would walk to green and do all the aim point stuff.
It killed our game......
My question is the time limit on shots?

6 minutes to hole out :o

Was he a good putter I.E Was he holing everything or not?

As an answer to the OP.

Be ready to play when its your turn. Have a pre shot routine if you wish, but keep it brief.

Popcorn time :)

Clearly way too long in this instance. At what point did you say something to him (it wouldve been the 1st maybe 2nd green if he was taking as long as you say for me) and what was his response

If it continued Id have been putted out and the flag back in the hole by the time he was ready to play lol

3 hours for 9 holes is ridiculous.
Someone needs to have a word with him .....soon

Fair play to the bloke he holed everything, he was very fussy he would ask you to put the flag down if you were holding it. And then he would move it him self. sometimes it could be 6 inch in one direction.my pp said we can we speed up.Made zero difference.so in the end we let him get the flag every time.Never seen anything like it.

On one hole all three of us were on the green and he was still dicking about on the tee in his bag.We just stopped waiting.but it makes you feel odd because it's not what you normally do.

I hope you beat them.

Isn't 6 mins for one shot "Undue delay"? IMO it is!

I don't think it would be unreasonable to say to him, "Look mate, you just took 6 minutes over that last shot! The pro's get put on the clock if they're slow and from now on you will have to be too. The pros get 40 seconds but you can have a full 60 - after that its Loss of Hole."

I once took great pleasure beating a guy who took an age over everything by 'out-slowing' him!

There was no-one behind us, so we weren't holding anyone up, but after 3 holes where I should have been 2 up, but was 2 down, i figured I had to do something to at least sort my murderous thoughts out and back to Golf!

No time was wasted talking, either during or after the round!

If the 9th finished near the clubhouse I'd have shaken his hand, congratulated him on winning with a superb display of gamesmanship and told that I ever played with him again and he tried that I'd rip his throat out with a pitchmark repairer!
Bloke's a total Knob!
If he carries on like that he'll be a very lonely golfer.

You need to read New Golf Thinking, it will help you focus on your own game and not the negativity of your oppos slow play.

Post of the month.

A couple of things you could have tried to help him get the message:

1) Call the group behind through while he is dicking about on the green
2) Tell him you are walking back to the group behind to apologise for his slow play then do so while he is still pondering over his putt.

Either way you are making the point that he is slow without actually having to tell him so he then can't accuse you of being rude or confrontational.
