From the 'I'll just finish it' thread

So you tap in your one footer (or whatever but close to the hole)

No exact science here I guess so talking in averages:

How much is a line actually affected for the next players putt by an average weight player standing on your line close to the hole & how long, in average weather conditions, does the green take to bounceback/recover from your stance?

You got a piece of string you want measured as well?

At this time of year, in this weather, ours are firm enough and standing on a line won't affect it.

Edit: unless someone is jumping up and down like an elephant on E's.

Yeah fair bit of latitude here with all the variables but with everyone playing twister for their 'I'll just finish that' putts (& why not as its accepted etiquette) but I wondered if we aren't 'over protecting' the line on a typical May-Oct round

Irritates me when people tend the flag and stand right next to the hole with the flag all but on their shoulder - arms length please!

At the moment though our greens are barely showing pitch marks so impressions from feet not an issue...

At the moment our greens are nice and solid and so it's not an issue. I would assume in the wet or winter there would be an indentation (not really worried about it before) for a few moments but just get up there an stick it in the hole. It shouldn't make a difference.....should it?
