Played in Green somes tie yesterday against a 9 and 2 handicap. The 2 handicap guy wasn't too bad but the other guy....jesus!

timed him on one shot..... 33 sec from standing with the club behind the ball and hitting it....!

pretty much the same on every shot, not suprising it took 4 and a half hour plus....

I'm about 5 sec.. this standing ready to hit not including pre shot rout, lining up etc.

How about you lot?

Im about 2 secs max :). Once ive put the club behind the ball and got into position what else is there to do?

33 secs is crazy  Wonder what he is thinking in them 33 seconds?? :D

When ive played with players who do stand over the ball for a long long time I find that I have to fight myself to not shout "just hit the damn thing"

Not sure. Can't be more than a few seconds. Just long enough to relax and then go.
Probably a second or two longer on the tee versus other shots.

I don't know how someone could stand there over a ball for 33 seconds and then not talk themselves into screwing up. It must be interminable to play with that guy.

5-10 seconds.

Same. i have said it before, i have a mate in my circle that is the same as the OP's fella, 30-40 seconds, but to make things worse, he is a bigger chomper than me, so 30-40 seconds x 100+ shots = 50 minutes per round minimum! i have a few of the guys refuse to play if this guy is coming out...

birchy, don't freekin lie. by 2 seconds after you have put the club behind the ball you have rubbed it with a towel, cleaned the grooves and put it back in the bag.

I knew that would wake you up mate :D

Longer I stand there the more chance I have to think shank, OB, Trees, water, bunker, swing & miss etc etc :D

I have no idea but I could talk myself in and out of a lot of things in 33 seconds.

Its just one of those sayings amateurs should never mutter. A chain of jerky, uncoordinated and usually involuntary movements plus a dodgy follow through is anything but explosive for most hackers (hacker is any golfer above cat 1 for reference).

Not me though. My swing is quite smooth and well balanced. My weakness is the driver I simply do not find enough fairways.

Never timed it but I'd say 5sec,any longer & i start over thinking.Westwood seems to stand over the ball for a while.

Under 10secs easily for me but couldn't be more precise than that. Putting however, that's another story. I'm struggling with holding on to it too long, tensing up and hitting a flaky putt. Something I'm working hard to resolve.

Its funny how many a provisional ball finds the short stuff , people just put it down, have no practise swing and boof it away.

I do tend to freeze sometimes, especially if i'm concered im not lined up properly. But usually I think 5-10 second. Shorter when im putting.
