I'm injured at the moment, torn muscle in my ribs.

Last played on Thursday night, the pain was excruciating, so went to the Docs.

HE recommended a two week lay off from swinging a club.

its only been a few days (3) and missing it already esp as we have had some fantastic weather the last few days.

Ive managed 3 months before, but that was due to heavy snow and all the courses were closed, but still managed a swing now and then.

how longs can you go without playing/ swinging a club?

I've done 6 months off in 2 consecutive years. It's a strange thing. It gets easier as the lay off goes on. In fact, it's almost like kicking an addiction.

Currently off with a bad back/neck/shoulder.

All the above at the ripe old age of 31 :(

Have to stop myself picking up a club in the house and having a little swing as I could be doing longer term damage, laying me off even longer. Its been about 2 to 3 weeks now and have physio on Wednesday.

Estimating another 4 weeks off and yes I am doing my own nut in to be back out on the links !

I feel your pain brother

was out just over 8 months last winter with my ACL injury, previously lost several years when my knee was at its worst (wasnt sure Id ever play again seriously), never fun but as has been said, the first few weeks usually the hardest

Had nearly 18 months enforced layoff due to the shattered ankle and another 2 years off when The Boy came along - just couldn't justify to time or the expense...
Hated every second of it!

Yeah, but you now play 3 times a week and you're still a miserable bleeder :) :) :)

Obviously depends on who he's playing with!

I too had 3 months forced layoff - broken ankle - but there was never any chance of playing in a 'boot'!

First few rounds after were a bit tentative, but absolute joys to be back!

Following back surgery in 2006 I didnt play again for the best part of 3 years.

Then further back problems last year saw me out for 3 months

But I had Keyhole Kidney surgery in April this year and was playing within a week, with the staples still in. which was a mistake

So what I am saying is Take your time coz if you rush back, you will mess something up :)

Well That wasn't much of a lay off!!!

6 days.

Played with Hickory Hacker at mine, lovely afternoon, but geez, the golf was Sheer Hite.

Ribs were ok up until the 17th when another pulled 3 wood off the tee resulted in having to reach the pin 186 yards away into the breeze with a 7 iron out the rough. That tweeked it a bit. as did the 2 iron OOB on the 18th :(

Over a period of about 5 years I would only play once or twice a year.

Not through injury, I just got fed up of the game and wanted a break.
