I think its fair to I'm going through a horrendous patch of form.

Played a bounce with a colleague at brancepeth mid week and lost about 4/5 balls and a fair few shanks.
Then I played a practice round at my course followed by the comp on sunday at the weekend - the same pattern came. Lost balls all over the shop and too many shanks to keep count of. (110 gross on sunday, that's how bad it got!)

I know I'm not 'that' bad of a player for my ability. Only last month I scored under my handicap twice (two 84's in 3 weeks) even with a cut in between.

What methods has anyone else found useful to return to form? My initial thoughts are to just keep plouging through and playing as I normally do. The only thing with that is that if my bad form continues it'll cost me a box of balls every week!

All good things come to those who.... work there butt off! Thats my take on it, I just work harder, concentrate more and so on.

Do you know what part of your game to start on? Are you losing it off the tee. Is it just the shanks?

Your a 15 handicap, 110 must have been shocking, your head must be all over the place but you know your MUCH better than that so no need to freak out, just find out where the problem(s) is/are and work on that.

I'm another for whom it never comes easy and if I hit a bad patch I have to work harder. If I got to the stage of hitting unmetionables though I'd be going back to the teaching pro I use for a refresher and then work on drills. I think Bob put a video up of a good drill for this nasty affliction. I'm sure someone will be able to search it.

I hate having the sockets. It's Russian roulette on the course not knowing when the next one's coming but knowing it's in there. Hope you get it sorted soon

I sent a couple off to the right from the tee but I think that was probably due to my mind being elsewhere.

On reflection my bad shots were coming from my iron approach shots.

I have been getting very hard on myself on the course at times recently, but I had a change of attitude this Saturday and vowed to enjoy myself no matter what, managed to get 37 points with a blob in our chuck up which felt good and i came away feeling happier than i had in months. Sometimes its just a change of mindset that can help.

When the bad patches happen, I usually go in the back garden and take slow motion swings and from that I can normally identify what has gone wrong. For me it's usually my stance that is to blame, I get so eager to hit the ball I forget to lengthen the spine and rock forwards on the downswing.

Or my arms separate from my body losing the timing .

Its probably something really simple which I'm sure you will Suss out soon

I started the year at 14.0 - had a purple patch in April/May, during which I qualified for the HCP club championship and got down to 10.6, both of which were massive achievements for me.

after a poor June/July, I'm now at 11.4 and I can't remember the last time I've hit two decent consecutive shots and I'm absolutely dreading the HCP comp as it starts this Sunday morning. I'm trying everything to get back into a rhythm, but nothing seems to work.

Beginning to think april/May was a fluke and I'm just working my way back up to my level

Same here, started the season off well, two cuts took me from 15.6 to 14.1, then had 4 straight 0.1's since.

Some rounds it's just constantly bad, other rounds have been 14 good holes and 4 shockers.

Haven't got close to making buffer for a month or so now, really starting to hack me off

Another medal on Saturday, touch wood I can re-discover some form.

back to basics, posture, grip alignment.

Then, using a 7 iron only, take waist to waist swings - smoothly-.

Build this up after about 20 shots to half swings then normal swings but still keep it smooth without trying for distance (dont cheat and power one as you'll be hitting them well by now and the temptation will be strong).

patience and the above will set you back on a better path.
