How hard do you swing?

Just curious as to how much effort you put into your swings? I'm not talking about swing speed per se but more like what %age of effort you put in?

With irons & wedges I really smash it as hard as I can (95-100%) and consider myself a strong iron player. For hybrid/woods/driver I use a much smoother swing (Maybe 75%) but have no-where near the consistency I have with irons. Can't really smash it with my hybrid/wood current shafts so I'm debating going stiffer and upping the speed....

About 95% with a driver.

It varies with other clubs.... sometimes I swing really smoothly and then wonder why I didn't hit it hard enough to get to the green

I tend to swing 90% with my putter... and leave them 10% short! :D

It's not physically possible to hit the ball hard... only fast.

As slow as I can.

I think I'm slower from the top and, as a result, getting the right speed through impact

How hard, basically hard to see me finish. The finish is key, getting in a nice fluid motion from impact to finish will generate distance. At the top, where most wrongly perceive power to come from is not where I swing hard, I use gravity to drop down and then accelerate through the ball. Swinginging hard usually causes an over the top swing and loads of issues with timing. What you think is 75% could well be a lot further than your 100% purely down to impact quality and timing. I would say play within yourself, I know from 150yards in I am okay, whether that be a 7 iron or PW. I may push the speed up on a large open drive, but rarely, what I am is committed to finish the shot, no holding back or stopping after impact.

i like what youve said there , i was going to say i have a casting motion about halfway thru my downswing which creates my power but actually accelerating thru the ball describes it better!

Generally with a driver it's about 95% to 100%. I try no to rush my backswing & make a full turn, if I do this I tend to be able to hit it as hard as I like. With my irons it depends on the type of shot etc I'm hitting so it coul be anywhere from 60% to 100%.

Thank you..
another point is people take the back swing too far and then either lose the line by dropping off, couple that with an over the top motion and you'll spend the day routing about in the rough. 3/4 swings are king or to the point where the thumb is just not loaded, the club doesn't need to get to the point of aiming down the line, it just has to accelerate through the ball and yank your body and arms around to a the finish position with its momentum.
