How Far Do You Walk During a Round of Golf?

My wife is on a health kick and has started to walk everywhere. So that she can work out how far she has gone she downloaded the app "Map My Walk" to her phone.

I decided that it would be a good idea to download the app so that i could calculate how far I walk during the average round of golf.

I played today round my own course off the whites (which is relatively short at 6044 yds tee to green (3.43 miles). I set the app to start recording on the first tee and then put the phone in my trouser pocket where it stayed for the rest of the round. I turned it off again after clearing away from the 18th green.

After looking at the data i was amazed to find that i had actually walked 7.7 miles during the round. Obviously some of this is walking to the next tee but some of it must be when walking around the greens during the putting phase. The app uses the phones GPS so I assume that it is fairly accurate.

No wonder I am goosed after I have done 36 holes in a day. Also, as I have been playing this game for over 25 years now i must have walked thousands of miles "chasing" that little white ball around the fields.

Yeah I regularly record mine with endomondo. Usually around 7.5 miles.

Really surprised at how much further than the actual yardage you walk, I would have thought maybe a mile extra but 3 miles more is amazing.

Samsung health on my phone automatically counts man and it's regularly around 8 miles.

Two of the guys in the roll up today had that on one had 4.1 miles the other 3.7 but he had attached it to his bag, so more of where is bag went rather than him.

I;m worried now - we are fortunate enough to have access to three 18s at our club and each year we do a 54 hole 'Tom Long' event (foresomes but still have to walk it). Just signed up today before I read this.

With a bit of poor golf it really could be a marathon!

I actually measured this today on my S1. 5.8 miles. Amazingly, I was very straight today, I can probably add another 0.5-1 mile on a normal 18.

I have my iPhone ihealth on today during the round. Played a full 18 on a similar length course today and only walked 8k. (and 25 flights on stairs)You must have really long walks between holes.

Never worried but on a 6,500 yard course I'm sure it'll be similar to the others unless I have an off day and zig zag my way around like a drunk heading home from the pub

I've always assumed about 3.5 to 4 miles, I'd be surprised if it was as much as 7 but you never know.
