I've just joined my local GC after a 5 year absence from playing golf. From past experience when you put in x3 cards in order to get your handicap. They just add you name to the handicap list that's displayed on the locker room wall.

I plan on entering a few "Open" comps this year.

How do I go about getting an actual "Handicap Certificate"?

Thanks

Yea, Berry. Just ask your club secretary. They'll just give you a letter saying;-

From

"Such and such golf club,

We confirm that x has a CONGU handicap of 10.6 (playing handicap 11).

Signed

Club Secretary"

harry' and borntorun', up to last year you could get an EGA-recognised handicap online but they've stopped it now. There are several sites doing 'online' handicaps but they aren't recognised officially.

why do you want it? If it's for open competitions you may not have them accepted. If it's to play a course that says 'handicap required' - how many ever check?

When I knew my 3 cards were in, I phoned up (a week later?)and asked for a full size cert and a wallet sized card.

Our Secretary was quite off with me.....and said, "you'll have to wait until I do the whole lot at the end of the month".....to which I replied "I don't think I will!"

?????

It (they) were in my pigeon hole the next day.

maybe I didn;t put it clearly,

for opens on-line handicaps may not be accepted

but if you just want it to play a course that says 'handicap certificate required' you might get away with it.
