House insurance query

While I was fixing a leak in my garage roof ( flat roof ) my wife who was inside the garage noticed the chipboard is virtually rotten, about 70% of it. Can I claim on my house insurance to get it repaired? Thanks in advance.

Best ask your insurers as you may feel the damage was caused by the leak.

Rotting happens over time, so they may say it's been wear and tear due to lack of maintenance, best of luck.

Yes you can claim but it depends on how good your maintenance has been and how long since last reroof.

They may pay for the chipboard but not the reroof or expect you to pay a proportion.

I had the whole lot paid for on mine because the insurer could see that I regularly carried out maintenance and patching repairs.
