Hi all, if you soak your club heads in warm-hot water when you get home from a round, could it cause the hosel to start riding up the shaft??

Master-putter.

Ok cheers guys, my mate soaks his clubs in warm water after every round before he cleans them but the hosels on all of his irons are starting to ride up the shaft

You mean the ferrule.

The ferrule is just plastic, and not usually glued in place as such (there may be a small amount of glue displaced from the shaft being inserted that is holding it in place), with hot water the ferrule loosens due to expansion and can ride up the shaft.

Hot water will loosen the ferrule but not the join between the club and the shaft.

The ferrule is just to make a more attractive join between the two, its pretty much just cosmetic.

Hot water will be good at sterilising your clubs though, nothing worse than mould growing on your 5 iron!

What is he doing with them? A wipe with a bag towel after each shot should be good enough to keep his clubs clean.

Sorry guys I meant the ferrule! He only soaks them for about 5-10 mins whilst he puts his other stuff away and then gives them a wipe over. Some people look after their stuff properly, problem?
