The 2016 Honours Boards were updated recently and unfortunately two errors spotted so far:-

Knockout winner credited to someone who did not even play in the event

Mis-spelling of surname on another

Something happens each year it seems (and will get corrected) - does this happen elsewhere ?

I have not checked the trophies to see if they are also wrong, but as they were presented to the right people at the presentation evening I assume they are ok.

We've recently switched from the old fashioned wooden boards and gold letters to a far better looking perspex version. Couldn't see any glaring issues when I perused them and my name was spelt properly! The winner without playing sounds a real faux pas. How did that happen?

Give me "old fashioned" wooden boards over a piece of plastic any day.

We have a father and son at our club with similar initials. The dad is RJ and his son is RK. A couple of years ago the dad won the scratch KO competition but his sons initials were etched into the trophy.

I remember doing a story back in the 80s for a Surrey club where the outgoing captain had left under a dark cloud but had arranged for one of the boards to be changed from his biggest rival's name to "A Tosser".

Our boards are two years out of date. I'm trying to get them updated at the moment. I've had a quote of £140 from a club member and forwarded it to the club management committee. Don't talk to me about the club trophies. I had a proper look at them in November. They are a disgrace. One is missing, one is awarded for the wrong comp....I could go on and on. Shambles!

Similar but different theme....

PP and I won the Summer Foursomes at my previous (Proprietary) Club. Which was only about 10 years old at the time. It is listed as one of the Major Comps.... but there wasn't a Board for it.

My partner asked about this and was told that there should be one, but the original winners refused to pay to have one put up! AND if we stumped up the cash, they'd be happy to get one!!

The obvious comments (and no money) were exchanged and there is still no Honours Board for that event... so when asked if my name is up anywhere, I reply... "Eh, not exactly!"

Yep, my surname was incorrectly spelt on the honours board at my old club. When I pointed this out, they had it corrected. Fortunately, the trophy was engraved correctly!
