Just logged onto Facebook and a guy I know has been on jizzing himself that he is in Hong Kong for the (in his words) best annual rugby tournament in the world.....

Now I must be missing summit here, surely this akin to me heading half way across the planet to watch one of my football teams play in some 5/6 a-side tournament??.....

I mean why would you treck half way across the globe to watch a joke form of the game?

Mickey Mouse format of the game...enlighten me to what difference there is between the HK 7's and a person trecking in the opposite direction for the old Tennents sixes,a tournament that ran from mid 80's to mid 90's.....a tourny I wouldn't have crossed the road to watch!!

If you like your rugby, the HK7s is one of the best weekends around. It is the biggest drinking event that I have ever been to and great fun.

I've done World Cups, Lions Tours, England Tours and every 6 Nations trip there is and our HK7s trip is still legendary.

Starting Friday afternoon into the evening, all day Saturday and all day Sunday, you get food brought to your seat. You have to walk about 50 feet to pick up 2 litre jugs of Beer, Vodka Redbull, Vodka and Orange, Gin & Tonic, Bloody Marys, Rum & Cokes and Whisky & Coke.

It starts out fairly civilised but it gets extremely rowdy and messier and messier. We were out on the pop from 9:00am until 5:30am every day. Really hard work.

The atmosphere is fantastic in the stadium. It's a tradition that certain teams are given loads of stick: Australia, USA and, above all, the French.

It is one of the all time great weekends away. Day time at the 7s and nightime in Lang Kwai Fong and Wan Chai.

I could never go back though. I was in such a state I ended up in hospital when I got back - acute exhaustion!

But what a weekend. :)

It is a blinding weekend. 40,000 people from around the World with a common interest gathering for a party. When I went we managed 9 hors sleep in 4 days and the Aussies were still calling us wimps as some of tem hadn't been to bed for 3 days.

Simply an amazing place and a great experience. I can even remember some of it.

Right so it's a great session on the ales then??

Save some money and have yaself a weekend in Krakow/Prague etc....I was obviously right with the assertion it's a joke aspect of the game akin to 5 a-side football then.

Are they sisters?? :D :D :D

No, but you're not that far off the mark! ;)

It is also one seriously expensive weekend. The only thing that's cheap over there is the taxis - everything else is really expensive.

I went the first time that England won it. Absolutely torrential downpour. Soaked to the bone. Very fond, if hazy memories.
