Played at Lowes park in Bury yesterday. As I pulled up and got out of the car I was approached by the club pro who told me that to pay I had to put my money in an envelope and post it into an honesty box next to the 1st tee. Better still it only cost me 10 quid and that was for all day not just 18 holes!!

Does anyone else on here have a club that does this? I've never seen it anywhere before.

not my club but played one a couple of years ago, lovely wee course set in Perthshire, just pop your money in the box and off you go.

No doubt there will be some who don't but the local greenkeeper said they get roughly what he feels is right for the approx numbers he sees on the course.

Is Lowes Park a 9 holer with 18 tees? I played a Bury course last year next to M66 but there were 2 courses either side of it....cost £10 and very friendly place.....

Ive encountered honest box policy at Allendale in Northumberland and a few rural Scottish tracks.

Yeah that's the one. Holes 8&9 are on the other side of the car park. Not a bad little course

The course across from it is Walmersley

Got you now..thought the name Lowes Park rang a bell....very 'rickety' lane to drive up to the club!.....enjoyed my game there...was a Friday afternoon and quite quiet....Walmersley possibly looked a better course..but Lowes was great VFM and top hospitality....the bar was open!

Yeah that lane is a nightmare!!

The course was really quiet. No one in front or behind which is ideal!

Lol - and your car. As a friend once discovered while playing at a rather quirky course called Lickley Hills.

LOL that's a little further away (40 mins) but my mate and neibour had his house broken in too and the car loaded up with goods and taken while they where all in bed  Rather quiet lately though so not too bad.

This is the club house at Bute GC (on the Isle of Bute unsurprisingly); there is an old safe inside with a slot cut in the top and that is the honesty box. Port Bannatyne GC at the other end of the island has an honesty box too.

In the Borders several clubs I have played have had honesty boxes.. St Boswells, Melrose and I think Hawick.. wouldn't work here in Nottingham !!

my place runs an honesty box policy, no pro shop just run by a committee of volunteers, it works to an extent. Retired members sometimes man the 'hut' to ensure visitors pay the green fee

When I used to play Huntercombe in the evening, we used to start on one of the holes on the edge of the course, and paid in the pub after the round. Can't imagine the practice still goes on though, which would be a shame.
