Holiday in Holland

I fancy Holland this year for our holiday. Anyone been and can recommend the best area to be based? We are not bothered about Amsterdam, that can be done another time, so we don't need to be near there.

Quick question first LT what sort of things do you like doing when on holiday and how long you going for. There's lots of places i could recommend like Zaanse Schans, Utrecht, Maastricht, Haarlem, Volendam, Giethorn, Delft and more but it literally depends on your interests and length of stay as to what I'd suggest.

Good point. Going for a week. We like to have a wander around places but don't want to flog ourselves. It's not a lie by the beach holiday we are looking for but equally not a city break. I guess it's like a weeks holiday in The Cotswolds, Somerset etc. We want to be in a nice base and go out each day to visit places of interest.

Zandfoort/Haarlem nice area and can get into Amsterdam easily, Zandfoort might be a bit busy as the F1 prep is going on around there. Arnhem obviously if your into a bit of history.

I havent been there so cant necessarily recommend it, but if me and the missus go to Belgium in June, we were thinking of going to Hertogenbosch for the day.

Its the birthplace of Hieronymous Bosch, whose religious apocalyptic paintings are world famous, but I believe that the town is totally dedicated to his art, on the streets also.

If art is one of your things, could be an option.
