As the subject says, do you have a hole that you cannot play, be it mental block, over water, a long carry or whatever?

For me, it is the 18th at my home course (Whickham), two options from the tee box, mid iron to 3 metal to place you on top of the hell, or if you have gone a little long down the bottom of the hill, or if you have a long drive a good smack will get you to the bottom of the hill or even over the stream.

However when taking the second shot, this is where the trouble starts, you'll be facing a 250-270yds second shot, from the top of the hill with a downhill shot so probably plays a lot shorter. You could lay up and leave yourself a short(ish) wedge onto the green as an option.

But this is where my mental block kicks in, the green is only 15yds or so from the side of the club house and 3 large glass windows, my fear is that I skull a wedge or go to long with an approach and end up in the club house. The path around the club house is ripe for a ball to hit and bounce onward to the car park as well, so as a result I've never come close to parring this hole.

yep, the 15th at my course.

Par 3 completely encircled by water. 170 to reach the front of the green. 200 to reach the back......bunkers short left and short right, bunker long right and trees lining both sides of the fairway.

It physches me out almost every time..... only hit the green twice.

Have you got an overhead view of it?

Can you smack a driver and still lay up easily if it goes wrong?
Is there trouble short of the green?

Edit: I've found it.

We have a par 3 at our course that is a minefield of danger.
Plays 135-150 depending on tee and flag.
A pond in front, wider than the green.
Oob left and right, dead over the back as an oob fence.
Two 20ft trees to the left and right of pond,so the gap is 50ft to go through.
Bunker on the left of the green, and a ditch on the right.
A true hit is definately needed.
Had my hole in 1 here.

14th at my course. Should be an easy par 3 but because my natural shot shape is left to right I have to hit it close to the trees (or in to them as is normally the case). For some reason I just cannot hit the green at the moment even if I have played the rest of the holes well.

At the moment it's the first, 229yd par 3 whihc I seem to invent new ways of messing up each week. I don't think I have had any better than a double bogey on it for the last 6 or 7 rounds. Ho hum.

That's because its straight.

:D You should see some of the ways I've messed it up recently, it really would be quite comical if it didn't mean using all my h'cap for the front nine on the first hole. The fact I've been in the buffer 5 of the last 7 rounds despite a double or triple on that hole is really quite extraordinary

Here is the overhead with a little explanation

18th.jpg

Orange outline top of the hill, anything past this will run down to the red circles, as indicated by the purple arrows, a long drive may see you here as well, or if you are unluck in the stream, outlined blue, if you are really long you could carry the streamto he right of the blue outline.

You are then faced with an uphill shot to the green.

This for me, 210 yards par 3 (whites) i just have a massive psychological problem off the tee on this hole, seriously its like watching an untrained chimp trying to tee off. i have hit left, right, 20 yard duffs everything but hit the green. It is such problem i dread reaching it! luckily its the 15th and my round is coming to an end, best score ever on it was a 4, and that was only because i hit a decent wedge from going long and left and 2 putted. Its 100% in my head, but i simply cant play this hole!!

For me it was our 290 yard par 4 16th. Regularly in the top 5 easiest holes on the course during medals. A narrow approach to the fairway between trees opens to a fairway that turns and runs left to right. The green is immediately protected front and left by bunkers with the right protected by tall trees. In a medal I think my best score has been a 7. However I went out in a bounce game and hit a 7 iron from the tee to leave a nice 9 iron that I stuck within 3 feet to sink the birdy putt. Hoping I can go out and do the same in the medal on Sunday. The amount of people that take a long iron/driver when it's not required. I guess in the past it's just been a case of following the crowd and attempting to go long off the tee to give a nice hop over the bunkers......not anymore.

It's 420-430 depending if you're off yellow or white.

It's a 300yd carry to get over the stream and anything over 200yds will run down the hill to the left and leave you anything from 150yds to the green.

Playing towards the bushes is a good call, but if you come up short you got a bunker to get over and a another oppurtunity to skull the ball into the club house.

It's all mental for me.

Golf insurance then don't worry about the glass. If they cared about thier windows that much they'd move the green ;)

3 of the 18 holes at Shooters, could be any of them at any point in the round atm! If I double it today I'll probably birdie it tomorrow and vice versa - At least it gives me the element of surprise so I don't fear any particular hole!

The 5th at mine a short par 4. Even off the whites it's just two mid irons. Down the hill to the pond and then up the hill to the green. Simple. To make it easier for some reason it's a two shot hole. Do I mess it up on a regular basis, yes! They've even filled in the ditch down the right side to help me! At most it's a six iron from the tee leaving anything from 7 iron to pitching wedge depending on the out come of the tee shot. It just messes with my head for some reason.

17th off the whites for me.

17th_zpsfdcab591.jpg

Can't use driver as it leaves me too close to the trees and pond 290 yards from the tee, 3 wood still has to be inline with the gap that is only 15 yards wide. When it's running I hit 4 iron into the landing zone leaving a 5 iron to 5 wood approach shot depending on how much roll I get. With large fir trees short/ right of the landing zone and OOB on the second shot it's not an easy hole. It's been lengthened just enough for it to become a par 5 but we are waiting for the LGU to come and measure it for the ladies to have it as a par 5 too.

I played with a chap who was having a stellar round sitting -8 to handicap and proceeded to score a 12 on it but held it together on the last to come in nett par but he was gutted.

I got into the habit of hitting my hybrid off the tee on this one from the whites and rarely got into any bother but recently have upped that to my 3 wood, which is putting me in trouble again, often behind/under the last conifer on the left as per Sunday... Must get back to using my hybrid.
I think it's a tough hole though as you need to carry the bunkers with your second and anything slightly long will usually add at least one shot to your score.

Don't think I've had any real monsters, though I've been resigned to playing a few as par 5s a but too often. Oddly, a couple of these are also the ones I've birdied most too!
