was discussing this with my PP on Sat.
we have our 2nd which is a par 4 off the white 463 yards, which is usually into the wind so most of the time you struggle to get home in 2, but off the blue which is at most 20 yards further back its a par 5.

prob the wrong way round in my op.

also a local club, near where i live has a 243 yard par three, but 20 yards back off the white its a par 4.

anyone else know of holes that are easier further back?

We don't have any that change what par the hole is.

However, our par 3 8th is inbetween clubs for me off the yellows and I always get it wrong, whereas off the whites it is a solid 4 iron for me, well connected, full shot, but not hit the life out of the ball.

the holes arent actually easier though are they, just the nominal par figure is higher. was a hole at one of my prev courses where the tee was at a different angle for the whites (60 yds to the left), suited my eye and ball flight better and hence actually played easier off the whites than the yellows. the new tee on our 9th likely to end up similar for me too

We did have one. Very long par 4 off yellows, but fairly easy par 5 (ten yards back) off whites. Stopped this season. Both are now par 5. Thank the Lord !!!

But if it is only 20 yards difference, which you could get with lets say just a club up from what you would on the other tee, but you're also getting another shot with it, the hole does in that sense become easier.

Noticed this when playing abroad. At my home course we always play off the whites. Playing off the yellows on visited courses I find normally brings all the crap into play. Off the whites on many courses I find it easier to get the ball in play.

Our 16th hole. Trees down the right and as I play with a fade I aim down that side. From the white tees there is room for me to get enough height to go over the trees if I aim too far right but from the yellows there is no such escape.

We have a short par 4 with water in play which is only a 5 iron of the yellows for position. However, off the whites / blues its a full 3 iron or even rescue to hit the same landing zone. Funnily enough the full shot always feels easier to hit than the easy mid iron - but that may be me.

Always assumed the v long 4s etc were to meet the SSS requirements in terms of difficulty to avoid large differences between par and SSS.

Downfield in Dundee has 3 holes like that ,long par 4s of the yellows but of the back tees there par 5s, i prefer playing it of the back tees

Our 5th hole is easier off the medal tee as you play straight down the fairway where as the yellow is forward and to the left so you are hitting into a fairway that slopes left to right away from you.

I remember playing the 12th at Wentworth West. Par five that you have to drive over two big trees. Hit a stonking drive, followed by a three wood out of the screws twenty yards short, nice chip to four feet, and lipped out the putt. Oh well at least that should be a five for two or even three points with a shot I thought. Nope off the yellow tees it was a par four, around 470 yards, stroke index 12. Solid point then.

Long par 4's that are par 5's off the back tees are generally easier to me.

Is that the hole I hit driver to 15 feet off the yellow tee. Seemed quite easy off the yellows, especially with a slight breeze behind.

2nd hole at Omagh. From the comp tee although physically not further back. It's 307 vs 310 from society tees.

It's not the length difference though it's the tee box positions. OOB right but the comp tee opens up the fairway a little and a miss left is usually OK although may force a chip out to fairway it's likely you'll go far enough to have a shot. The society tee is further left but also has trees left which force you to play more right. Makes the OOB easier to find and makes the "safe" miss left almost impossible.

We have 2, our 1st and our 10th, both very long tough par 4's off the yellows but 20+ yards back off the white stones they are comfortable par 5's. Also got a couple of holes where the bunkers don't come into play further back, especially on our 4th, 6th & 16th, although I have flushed the odd drive and with a good run on the ball they can trickle in, but not often enough to worry about.

I'm reaching the point where all of them are easier off the back tees coz I can't reach the fairway bunkers off the whites...

Are you getting confused with the short par 3 6th hole?
