Can anybody help me with my golf glove problem please.

I normally use either Titleist Players Gloves or FJ Cabretta Soft, and they last me a good while until they get mucky.
However, the last 3 weeks I've unbelievably just binned my 4th glove, all because of this attached picture.

Any experts got a clue on why this is happening?
It's obviously a problem with my grip but I've not purposely changed anything and I'm also playing well.

Help please!

Blimey, its not slight either is it? That`s a big old hole.

Difficult to make comment as you have not intentionally changed anything and are playing well. Without those comments one would have to think you are not getting the club through your fingers and its more on your pad rather than under it.

My gloves wear in the same place, although not as quickly as yours have. A pro once told me it was something to do with my grip but I can't remember what is was now and I did nothing about it anyway. Sorry, not a huge amount of help other than to say you are not alone. If you find a make that reinforces that area please post it as I will buy them as well.

I used to kill gloves on the tip of the thumb and bottom of the index finger. When I was fitted I was fitted with 3 layers of tape of the bottom and one on the top. It was like a miracle, no more hard skin on my hands any more and not more killing gloves.

The OP though has not always had this problem so its a strange one.

Could also be a batch of dodgy quality gloves due perhaps to poor storage temperatures. Happens here more often than I'd have thought having seen a glove disintegrate after 2 holes

Also I've seen glove sizes change from one year to the next from same manufacturer so we buy the size we usually get for that brand and they're a wee bit looser than last years

I found this!

The large Srixon gloves are now huge after fitting perfectly last year!

Yup I've had to go down from M/L to M on callaways last year and from M to S on Srixon! (but not across all types i.e all-weather can be different again)

Edit: I guess it could also be weight changes in the player i.e lose a couple stone (or put a couple on) and its gonna come from somewhere (who hasn't noticed a wedding ring get a little looser/tighter as weight changes)

I seen that lots from people that re-grip the club at the top of the swing and lots from people that don't have the right sized grips as Alex pointed out.
I would think this is not a glove problem, but a grip issue. Its either you, or your grips are the wrong size

I had the same with two Srixon cabretta gloves, one only lasted a couple of holes, I had bought them from a pro off Ebay,
suspecting they were dodgy I complained and was fobbed off with him saying it was all down to my grip, well the replacement one is still going strong, yes there is a little wear around that area, after a couple of months.

Did you buy all the gloves from the same place? Could be a dodgy lot, maybe try a different brand or shop if you did.

No - different places. I've also just realised that it's in fact 6 gloves in 5 weeks! A Bridgestone Tour Premium and a Nike Tour Classic to the list. So no way it can be a bad batch or temperature/storage, etc.

It's definitely me.

I've noticed that when I tried one on last week. I was awkward fitting for them as just between L & XL. Tried the XL and it swamped my hand. Even the large was a bit too big.

Out of interest; how long do you keep your glove(s) before changing?

Normally last me while (2 months) and I'd throw it out if it was either mucky looking or lost its shape.
The ones I've chucked lately are in great nick apart from the big hole at the bottom right hand side of my palm (left handed glove).

Think of it logically.

What causes the hole - friction. What causes the friction - loose grip. Has to be a grip fault of some kind. Either bad setup at the start or changing grip pressure during the swing.

As has been stated, the actual grips on the club may be a factor, their size and number of tapes fitted.

I used to have gloves wear there, although nowhere near as bad as the OP.

I was letting the club slip slightly at the top of my backswing, and that movement caused wear in that area. Still do it a little but not enough to wear a hole. I still prefer gloves with some additional protection/padding/reinforcement there just in case!

I guess it depends on how many rounds you play during this time. One glove per week is ridiculous though. Is that you actual glove, or just from Internet?

Last time I had a glove rip after one round I gave it back to the pro shop I bought from and he replaced it, also mentioned it on Twitter to see if anyone had similar with that brand ... ended up being contacted by the brand in question and they sent me another one too!

Good timing on this for me. Wearing holes in the pad as per the OP picture and as I've been struggling had a lesson on Tuesday. Turns out I was holding it too near the but and re-gripping during the swing. He had me gripping what felt like halfway down and had the hands much more out in front of the ball to get rid of the cupped wrist. As a test, I put a relatively new leather glove in the bag to hit balls today (I usually use old synthetic ones to practice) and not any sign of wearing or re-gripping after about 100 balls.
