Played with a guy today who had this App on his phone. Looks pretty damn good and is free. Just loaded it on my phone.

Questions:

Anyone on here using it?
If yes, then what's your opinion of it?
Is it legal?

Cheers

I've got it to preview courses and occasionally work out how long a drive was post round. Personally try to avoid looking at phone during round and if I was to use a gps would probably buy a watch or bag mounted one. My friend who I play with uses it but I think it's good to judge distance without it. Very good for a free app though.

After much deliberation and pretty much using all of the other free apps, I feel this is the best.

A lot of the others are either trying too hard to sell you additional features, will give you features then take them away after a few holes or I found not very good at actually connecting to the GPS.

I love the app, gives the information I need distance to front, middle & back as well as to a specific point and gives good analysis on your round couldn't recommend it higher.

I have the Golfshot app on my phone, useful for playing on new courses but I never use it when playing my own course as I know where all the hazards are.

Answer to the original posters question about is it legal, well the software is but the hardware isn't.

see following, taken from RANDA:

it is important that the device only measures distance. The use of a distance-measuring device that is designed to gauge or measure other conditions that might affect a player’s play, such as gradient or wind speed, is not permitted, regardless of whether such an additional function is used or not, and even if that function is disabled.

I use it. You can also team it up with the Apple Watch or Android Wear Watches to get distances to the green on your wrist if you want.

I have always used Swing by Swing but found it clunky so going to give Hole 19 a whirl today. It looks to be a much cleaner interface and a much quicker app.

That's we I like it so much. The interface is just so clean and tidy and nice to look at.

I downloaded it ages ago but have never used it! Think I set it up etc but that sad far as I got. Recently bought a garmin S2 so will prob not find out!

As far as legality goes, if you use the app & ONLY THE APP.....is that ok?

I realise that the phone may have other functions so your pp will have to have faith/trust in you not to use other aspects of the phone. But the app itself only gives distance, course view & scorecard.

No, to use a phone in competition for a measuring device is illegal.
If you just play social/society it'll be cool, but should never be used in any sort of club or national competitions.
