your club take from competition fee's?

What do you pay to enter your club competitions? I'm not talking opens, just the normal run of the mill Saturday/Sunday comps. What per centage does your club take and what per centage is paid out?
I would be very interested to find out from other clubs as I think our M&H guy is having a laugh!

In my case, I have played in about 40 comps this year at £3 a go, some are £4. So roughly about £130, in which half goes to the club. Thats another £75 on top of my sub's the club gets from me.
I'm on the M&H committee and not until this year did I know how much the club was taking from the fee's. Speaking to past M&H guys, they have told me they didn't take as much for the club.

Is our guy being fair in taking half? He has told me the way he works it out is, whatever is lifted, the pro gets 7 per cent, then he splits the rest half to the club half to be paid out. Saturday comps have a set pay-out. It's the other comps which he does this.

We charge £2 entry. For the main competitions we take around 30%. This still leaves enough for a substantial prize fund paying 12 prizes on the finals day (6 each summer) from £300 down or £200 down depending on the competition.

The rest goes to finance other handicap committee expentiture such as subsidies to other competitions which don't take so much (eg mixed open, seniors, juniors) and hospitality for team events for all levels. Also, being attached to a public course we also have to pay the operator for green fees albeit at a reduced rate for visiting teams etc.

All in all it works well and nearly everyone is happy with the system. I would say though that some of the prizes on offer at other clubs are quite small so "where does it all go?" is a perfectly good question to ask the committee.

Interesting one this champ, our club takes 30% and the winnings go into the club shop for you to spend there. The only exclusion is the Turkey trot.
So in one way of looking at it the club are getting 100%.
I am happy to support the club shop and pros as they are competitive and give excellent advice and support.
Having said that it seems that members who play all the comps are putting more into the club financially than other members. You also find that the same members spend the most money at the bar. Additonally they also put the most time into the club because from the same group you will find the commitee members and people willing to do organisational stuff.

We pay £4 for comps, pay out from that will be somewhere between £40 and £60 for the winner, down to £5 dependant on how many places. Times that by 2 or 3 divisions. An extra £10 goes to lowest gross.

All the winners during the year get to go to prize giving (3 course meal, trophies etc), those places are paid for by the comps.

Not sure about current club but previous club was 4 quid to enter 1 went to 2's club 1.75 went to club for the scratch team etc and rest went to prize fund. You didn't have to enter the sweep to play however if you just wanted to play comp for handicap purpose then you could play without paying. But then what's the point in that lol

Not sure on how much our club takes. We pay £3 to enter and there are only 4 prizes normally (£40, £20 and £10 plus a lowest gross but never won that so no idea of the value) all prizes are in pro shop credit so the profit on the spend also goes to the club. Would have thought that we average 100 entrants for a comp so you are looking in the region of 2/3 going to the club.

£2 to enter comps. the club retains 40% and pays out the rest into proshop accounts. The 40% retained is used to boost prize funds for competitions that do not require an entrance fee i.e. matchplays, club champs, etc

Up until this year it was only £1 we were paying with the same percentage being kept by the club but weekly winnings were low and you'd need 3/4 wins to be able buy anything other than a few mars bars.

We don't pay seperately for 2's. In each monthly medal if a player scores a 2 then they automatically get £3 into their account from the club pool.

I'd be rather cheesed off if after paying my annual subs I had to pay an additional entry fee for each competition that there was.

We've got an optional sweep and a twos sweep that the pro runs, but as I say, they are optional.

£3 per competition. Monthly stableford prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd per division to be spent as vouchers in the shop so as others have sadid technically it is all kept in house. For trophy events and honours board competitions the winner and 2nd usually split the voucher money something like 70/30

There is a £2 optional 2's sweep run by the pro and I presume he keeps any profits. As I can't play our par 3's anyway I rarely bother

Our payment is optional too. You can still win the competition if you don't enter the sweep, obviously just don't get the £.

I raised a similar concern a few months ago. If looked at from a certain point of view, comps that are paid for are a club 'tax' to maintain your handicap. If you do not pay the entry fee then you cannot keep an up to date handicap so those of us that want to put as many cards in as possible have no choice other than to pay.

Unsure, but what I am sure of is the fact our entry fee is a total joke.

£2 and that includes 2's sweep!!

It has been £2 since I was a lad 20 years...I tried to get it raised 2 years ago at the AGM but got shot down in flames as my proposed 50% rise to £3 would apparently see members not entering due to the high cost!
