This is becoming a bit of a problem for me at the moment, just as I get going on a semi decent round I start hitting the ball fat. It is not as if I am only catching the ground slightly before the ball either, my divots sometimes go further than than the ball. My playing partner (off 8) seems to think that I am swinging too steeply, could this be a cause? If so, anyone have any drills that I can try. In my last set of lessons, my pro was trying to get me to stand a bit closer to the ball, could it be that I am over compensating in this regard? If so, any routines to ensure that I have the ball in the right place for every shot?

Not at the moment but will try and persuade my wife to come up the driving range with me at the weekend and film my swing. What angles are the best to film from, face on and from behind?

From face on and looking down the line from behind, ideally with the camera in between the feet line and the ball line as below

If you are hitting it fat then you are arriving at the ball too far to the right. Without seeing your swing I would say
a) Check your posture, if you are too upright then you might be trying to hit down too hard/fast.

b) Make sure you are not moving your weight too far away to the right as you'll have to get back to the ball, which you're obviously not achieving right now.

c) Stay commited to the shot, hit right through it with acceleration and make sure you transfer your weight to the left side through the shot.

It seems that you are putting yourself under a bit of pressure if you're having a good round - try to stay relaxed, trust your swing, swing normal - don't try to overhit it. You'll fat it if you get stuck on your right side.

Hope this helps.

I went through a few weeks of hitting it fat, it was getting me down.
I have moved the ball slightly further forward in my stance which seems to have helped a lot.
The ball had crept back virtually un-noticed over the past few months and I found I was having to come in really steep to get back at it.
