Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone could help me with a problem I've started having. I seem to have started to hit the ball fat quite a lot lately. I know it's hard to say without seeing my swing but what are the main causes of this?

Also does anyone have any tips or drills to rid this?

Cheers

Possibly losing your height on the downswing - see if trying to resist the downwards momentum of the club with your legs helps; dont however get completely stiff/rigid lengths

Or has the ground risen where the ball is?

I cant get the Dean Wilson video to work (bleeding lap top!) but the first thing I would check is ball position being to far forward.

That video is really cheesy. Like one of those shopping channel adverts for steam mops when the porn Channel finishes

Totally agree... where'd you think I found it? :o:o:p

Fat shots are caused by weight being (or remaining) too far back and/or some kind of early release of the club.. unhinging of the wrists or right shoulder dropping too much.

i dont quite fully understand stack and tilt but i think i have elements of it in my swing.

Reverse Pivot?:D

Defintion: Reverse pivot: weight moves away from the target on the downstroke

In the Stack & Tilt pattern, from the top of the back swing the weight moves towards the target through downstroke.

The very definition of a reverse pivot involves weight moving AWAY from the target on the downswing. Any swing in which this motion does NOT occur can not be considered a reverse pivot.

Hope this helps

My ball striking has improved a lot since developing better understanding of where the low point of my swing arc is. If you have a big move off the ball away from the target in the backswing, you obviously have to get that weight and body position back to where it started to ensure the arc bottoms out at the ball on the downswing.

I learned to do that with S&T, but you can easily do it my working on staying more centred with a conventional swing as well. Should be plenty on Youtube on how to stay centred better.

You are most likely swaying rather than turning in the backswing. Then not getting back to the correct impact position in your downswing.

Why the surprise Monty lol. Let you into a little secret. I keep my weight on the front foot in my short and middle irons. . How is the S&T going by the way??

Very well... don't really think too much about the technique now, so it's pretty well ingrained. Mine is probably quite a watered down version now. Last two rounds were both +4 gross, which will do me off 9! Looking forward to the qualifiers kicking off next weekend.
