So I played in a 4AM yesterday at Morley Hayes in the pouring rain, I know lucky me. I have read on some course reviews and been told that it can take up to 5 hours to get round this particular course. I'm not sure why as there isn't anywhere to lose your ball, apart from in the water.

It was in fact a very slow round of golf it must have been around the 5 hour mark. We were waiting on every tee & for every second shot into the green but as you do you wait for the group in front to clear the green or get past where you can hit your drive to. Well this may be the case for 99.999% of golfers out there but for some reason the group behind us hit into us once when we were on the green of the 4th green which only just reached the front fringe of the green. Then when we were on the 15th hole we had all teed off, walked to our balls & were waiting for the green to clear. I was about 40 yards ahead of where my partners were standing watching them hit their second shots, they must have been about 230 yards or so down the fairway when a ball pitched right in the middle of them. I got a bit angry and shouted back "thats twice now".

So on to the 18th, this is where my blood began to boil! Again we had all tee'd off & were waiting for the green to clear, when again one of the players behind pitched his ball between where 2 of my partners were standing. A couple of us then shouted back at them about it being the 3rd time they had done this. I was expecting to get a "sorry" shouted back at us but no we got "GET A MOVE ON THEN". I was furious to say the least, we couldn't go anywhere as we were waiting for the group in front to come off the green & made them aware of this fact. I felt like walking back to the tee and wrapping one of my clubs round his head, but that of course isn't the done thing so I took my anger out on my golf ball instead. For those of you that haven't played Morley Hayes the 18th at Morley is 430 yards and the 2nd shot plays quite a way up hill. I'd driven it to 150 yards to the centre of the green and 160ish to the back. I decided on a big 7 iron due it playing a long way up hill and not wanting to go long a leave a tough chip back down the hill. I ended up hitting a tree which is at the back left hand side of the green. It hit it about 3/4 of the way up so would have been a good 10 yards over the back but it ricocheted back to approx 12 feet from the flag & I made the putt for a birdie :D

We ended up sitting on the same table as them as it was a 3 course meal & the presentation afterwards & they never appologised.

Sorry for the rant it just really annoyed me and I felt the need to vent my anger.

Another reason to have mobile available for emergency use - to ring the committee and get them to sort it out.

I've been bombed a few times, some by really impressive shots, which have been laughingly apologised for as once-in-a-lifetime strikes! First time, especially if players aren't in view, gets tee-ed up. This seems a non-emotional way of getting the message across. Subsequent ones are liable to get pocketed.

No excuse for the one on 18!

Shame you didn't pocket one of there balls might had cost them the comp, certainly no excuse in any of the 3 occurances.
Just about finished the day having to share lunch with them.

I can't believe you didn't say anything. I would have lifted the ball on 18 and waited for them to come and ask for it back after the round, and then raised it with them. I would also have explained what I had done to whoever was organising it as soon as I left the course.

And I sure as hell wouldn't have sat having lunch with them.

I quite like the idea of writing your views on their golf balls with a sharpie. Nothing like the word knob to bring it all home!

My own son did it twice playing behind. To be fair he's an occasional golfer and didn't realise his own strength but the second time I wrote "ouch" on his ball. He didn't do it a third time!
