Never been troubled by this before in 50+ years of playing golf. Recently I have been having lessons, resulting in my in to out, very flat swing becoming much more upright. This change and/or practising a lot on range mats has started to give me just a slight twinge on the outside of the left elbow.

Has anyone else experienced this? Could a swing change be to blame, or is it the hard mats?

I feel your pain mate, I thought I had golfers elbow but yesterday I was speaking to a customer who's missus is some health worker type, she reckoned golfers elbow is the inside and tennis is on the outside of the elbow.
His wife recommended having the arm/hand stretched out in front and turning the hand (clockwise for me) until you feel it, do it throughout the day when it's feeling tight.
Lots of ice, Voltarol, massage and rest is the only cure, thankfully mine is feeling much less painful from 2 weeks ago but I'm still going to rest it for at least another few weeks.

*edit*
Mine started after a very long range session (on mats) where I'd been trying a different wrist hinge.

I also have tennis elbow, had it for a while now. Mine gets worse when I grip too tightly. Otherwise I can live with it. Whenever I feel my left forearm tensing, whether in golf or not, I have to try to relax it. Maybe something to be aware of.

Had the very same problem, but was put to bed after some physio. Exercise involved an elastic band held in the hand of the injured arm with the other end under the foot on the same side. Band was tight and was pulled up with hand whilst supported by other hand. Great exercise.

Thanks for the info folks. Tennis elbow it is then! It's very slight & more to do with slamming the club down on the mats than the swing change, I believe. I much prefer playing anyway & with the weather improving I can get out onto the course more & onto the practice ground to perfect my short game, which is what needs all the work.

How are you getting on with the elbow Bill?
I forgot to mention, I use one of these a few times a day http://www.boots.com/en/Neo-G-3D-Hot-Cold-Therapy-Disc_1364889/ I just stick it in the freezer when I'm done and it refreezes in no time, you can also use it as a hot wrap thing as well.
After going from agony on a daily basis I rested it completely for 2 weeks going bonkers with the ice pack, ibuprofen tablets and massaging Voltarol, I've been able to play quite a bit with very little pain recently. It's a little bit sore afterwards but the pain is much more localised rather than almost all of my right elbow/forearm.
It's not 100% yet but from where I was 3 weeks ago it's black and white.
There's hope yet mate ;)

As others have said....it's tennis elbow. Golfers elbow affects the inner not the outer part.
I suffer from it. Not at the moment, but I have had two "attacks" the last of which lasted the best part of a year.
I tried various remedies to no avail but then somebody put me on to this

It works. Believe me.
After taking them for about a fortnight it cleared up and I haven't had it since.

Fortunately it went away & hasn't come back but thank you for the recommendations. Think it was the over long range session, I now restrict myself to 50 or 75 balls & this seems to be OK. I will refer to this thread if I have any more problems. And, Smiffy, I've tried homeopathy before & can't make up my mind whether it works or not, but would be willing to try your remedy.
