A very strange outing today. The rough was playing tough and the on-off rain made it almost impossible to get a feel for the speed of greens. I felt I was hitting the ball pretty well. The line of my shots was all over (some big blocks and slices) but I was striking them ok, no big fats and very few even slight thins.

And yet, I managed a record of sorts. Despite my best efforts, I didn't lose a ball and came in with an even 100, which I am very confident is the highest score I've ever recorded without a single lost ball.

The main culprits were 7 shots lost in two occasions when I got stuck in thick rough and couldn't get it hacked out and a few three putts, duff chips etc.

Anyone else think of higher scores they've had without the help of a few stroke and distance penalties?

Don't get it. You say you were hitting your ball well! But you were slicing and blocking the shots all over the place.

How can that be good ball striking?

Maybe slicing and blocking off the tee, good with the irons.

The OP said he'd had no fats or thins, so he was hitting the ball well, despite the blocks and slices. So I suppose he was hitting good solid blocks and good solid slice :D

Yep, that's about it :D. Good contact, lousy direction.

If the ball does not go in the direction it was intended. It was a bad shot no matter how good the strike was.

Oh definitely. I wouldn't describe them as good shots (I shot 100, they can't be good shots). My point was that normally I struggle with fats, thins and tops costing me - at least this time I was making consistent strikes. The next step is straightening those good strikes to make them good shots more often.

I rarely lose balls or if I do its usually 2 or 3 in the same round. too many high 90's and low 100's to count tbh. In fact I lost 3 today all of them off the tee and 2 were in fear of causing an RTA they went that far left :p

Shot 99 off 9 first in competitive round back at Craigielaw. When out in last group and wind had picked up somewhat from the 'totally still' condition it what it was in the morning - CSS matched SSS! Mine was the 'best' score in the group too!

Highest score with one ball (on one hole) will be 8 points stableford was playing a devil
ball team game and luckily for me I got a birdie on si 3. Giving me 4 points that doubled :)

now I know it's not typical answer to the op question ;)
