I'd want to get to the bottom of the reasons for the resignations before I accepted that job. Good luck, sounds like your going to need it mate.

Totally Agree. I would want to be sure of the underlying problems behind the resignations as you want to thoroughly enjoy this experience. If you are aware and in a position to solve the problems (with the assistance of others) then I think the role will be all the more rewarding. Good Luck and Best Wishes.

Well done, and with all the golf ahead of you your handicap should come down !

Do you get a full 12 months,or just the balance of the last captains year ?

Good luck. Don't take it too seriously and make sure you get the right committee around you. They should run the club and leave you to enjoy your year. As for handicap I don't think it matters much so long as you enjoy the golf and are good company on the course. Our Captain this year is off 22 and he's had no issues.

As long as it's Club Captain and not the 'scratch team' captain there'll be no problem!! :D

Agree with other comments regards finding out whether there is anything worth knowing about those resignations. Golf clubs are gossip hotbeds so the word will be out quick enough.

If there's no problem then I hope you have an enjoyable year ;)

Well done and good luck for te coming year.
I will say you must have done something right to become captain with a 26 h/c.
It is a great honour to even be considered let alone become elected. Enjoy the experience mate. ;)

Like you I'm a 26er, I wouldn't even dream of coming anywhere near consideration!

Firstly con'grat on been asked to be Captain, it is certainly an honour.

Secondly, if the golf goes south you have a good excuse- 'Pressure of Captaincy lads!!' :)

well done and good luck :)
do you get free Bridies too - just noticed they are an anagram of birdies! i'll get me coat. :(

I agree that I'd want to know more about why both the cpatain and vice captain chose to resign. That would be worrying me. If you choose to accept the post then enjoy it. I have heard (never been in that position) that its hard work but ultimately rewarding. I know there are some ex captains on here so you can always get an independant viewpoint on an idea first. I guess the only thing that would spring to mind is you aren't going to please all of the people all of the time and those that moan the most are probably the ones that do the least (repair pitchmarks on greens, use the club, play in competitions)

Congrats Tonto enjoy it, as its a honour, but we all know up here that where you stay is a swingers paradise :D :D.
Congrats again mate ,see and enjoy the role and hope it doesn't put pressure on your golf.
Our captain last year played of 22 what a walloper he was, never represented the club in anything.

I hope it's not a sex scandal.
They can leave a nasty taste in ones mouth

You're doing it wrong, Smiffy, if it leaves a nasty taste in your mouth! :o

Captain and Vice Captain caught in intimate imbrace!!

Thats the type of story members will be telling for 100 years to come!!
