After reading thecraw's thread "Golf has lost the plot!", it got me thinking where are the hidden gems that we should all try and get to?

In these cost conscious times, I thought a limit of £40 per person (including a 2-4-1 voucher if applicable) would be about right.

Include links, if possible. To get the party started, I'd nominate Nefyn Golf Club in North West Wales and Cavendish Golf Club near Buxton.

Grantown on Spey and Boat of Garten are only 10 miles apart and both well under £40 a round. Both very scenic with Boat being a classic in most people's opinions. Not secret as such but are any courses secret these days?
I think Braemar is a wee gem, £20 or so a game.
Ullapool has a couple of great holes, as does Lochgilphead and they are both really cheap, less than £15 I think per game.

sorry to say but my 2 courses are over the water in ireland
concra wood at 40e and the lough erne on the early bird £30
hi i thought lough erne if thats the one mcilroy was promoting was around 190, mine would have to be Portmarnock golf links was 120 now can be played for 40 euro love Concra wood most of the links courses from Carne up along the coast to Donegal would come in around £40.

As a pay and play I'd vote for the Downshire. Owned and run by Bracknell Forest Borough COuncil it was voted in the top 10 pay and plays in the UK. Excellent test especially if you get a chance to play off the whites and in very good condition throughout the year.

Elsewhere and for a unique test, try Sunnindale Ladies. Its a par 61 of just over 3100 yards but is a real test of accuracy and patience and a lot of the holes are smaller versions of the ones of the more famous Sunningdale

As has already been said, Boat of Garten, Kingussie is another I'd add to the list. Dunaverty on the Mull of Kintyre, Shiskine on Arran is an amazing 12 hole layout.

Millport and Rothesay are other nice courses, however maybe not quite gems.

Most ever rated gems in my opinion are Portpatrick and Pitlochry.

Machrie on Islay is the best gem, jewel in the crown in my opinion.

Both the courses at Dale Hill (Woosnam & Old Course) are worth playing, and there are some good deals there at the moment.
