Persuaded my wife to take up golf about two years ago (on the basis that we should have at least one pursuit we both enjoy) and while we mostly play seperately, we do have the odd 9 holes together - like last Saturday.

So while i'm hacking and cursing down the sides of the fairways (going through one of 'those' patches), she's quietly tonking the ball up the middle, parring the two par 5's and finishing with a very respectable 46 for the front 9 ....

My 'Well played darling' (through slightly gritted teeth) was happily received and then yesterday she breezes off and gets herself custom fitted for £600 worth of TM Burner irons!

I've got a feeling I've done this wrong ..... :D

So not the content i was expecting

"HID has come out "...... thought there was going to be a "well i come home from work and heard a strange noise coming from upstairs.... "

Oh well

I think so long as the kids have flown the coop its a good thing, especially if she has her own circle of friends to play with. Imagine the kinds of holidays she'd want to go on as an avid golfer!!!!

You mad fool Baldy ... get her up the duff asap!!

I can see it now ... "darling I am putting my name down for the 36 hole Club Championship next Sunday" - "sorry Baldy, my sweet, but there is a mixed foursome on the Saturday and then you need to second coat the back fence on Sunday!"

You will only ever play golf with a man again as a mixed pair - doesn't bear thinking about!

I can see the benefits....ie Holidays with Golf etc, and perhaps the more understanding wife to our many little Bag additions etc,......

BUT, if she's gonna play like most of the ladies I have just seen on our Course, topping it 60' with any club, and pitching with something that resembled a 60* Wood, I pity you having to join them.
We have perhaps 3/4 ladies who can mix it with the men, playing off 1/3 Handicaps etc, but the rest play Golf like I have never seen it, its not pretty.

This European ruling that has come in will no doubt in time cause ructions, - as the ladies that 'can play a bit' have recently booked Tee times in some of the Saturday Comps, without slowing down the whole field.
However, if the rest follow suit, its bound to get ugly.

Still, you;ve made your bed.........

Don't listen to this lot :D...there's way more benefits. My gf plays (better swing than me sadly) and it's all good. She likes talking golf and is great company..also plan our holidays around playing golf.

My missus would be way too impatient to play golf and would want to be good instantly. There's no way she would go round hacking it 50yds barely getting it off the floor. We actually discussed it while we were away and she wasn't happy when I said she'd have to play with the other ladies. She even said she would want to play off the men's tees. Our villa was alongside the 4th hole of one of the courses next to the ladies tee. She was surprised how much further forward it was than the men's tees and actually thought the women were cheating playing so far forward.

Luckily she has no desire to play golf as I fear she would definately be campaigning to play in the men's comps.

I can see the benefits of having a partner that plays but I tend to get to play on holiday as it is so I don't do too bad.

Sounds like a nightmare, the missus should be at home cooking and cleaning not out enjoying herself on the course. Worlds gone mad.

lol durango.... nice open minded view there.

Its funny as a few weeks back i asked the misses if she fancied trying it " go on babe, then my time will be our time ".... not the least bit interested. Its amazing how reverse phsycology works, normally she wants to be involved in everything. ;)

I think it has some potential. At least there won't be any comeback now next time you rock up with a new driver etc. as she's just blown £600 on a new set of irons. We do have a few good lady golfers at our palce and if you get one in a mixed event they are worth their weigth in gold especially in a team event where a certain number of drives per player count
