Hi,
I am 15, with handicap of 28. In the last few days I have been reading this forum and thought it would be a good idea to sign up and get in with all the discussions. I have been playing golf for the best part of 2 years now, but have only been a member of a golf club for 1 year 3 months.

I always had a habit of slicing my drive into rough on the left hand side of the fairway as I am left handed. I have managed to correct this error and on Tuesday i shot a personal best 89. Par of the course is 70. I struggle to find time to play a lot as it is difficult to get up to the course as I live a good 9-10 miles away from the course.

However I joined this to talk golf and generally speak to some nice people. Anyway that is the general introduction of myself :)

Hello amnd Welcome to the forum. Good luck with the golf and well done on the 89.

This s definitly the place to improve your knowledge of the game.

But the blue writing is forbidden! :D

Welcome in.

Hello Adinik, welcome to the forum.
I'm sure there'll be a few on here jealous that you've got started at an early-ish age. I wish I'd started younger...if you keep at it, you could easily get to a really good h'cap and enjoy the game for the many years.
Good luck with your game.

No Blue Writing! The forums needed a make over as everyone writes in black so I thought I would use blue! :)

Yes, I haven't started really early but earlyish, but if I work on it I reckon I could get my handicap in the teens pretty quickly. And I am defiantly aimign at palying in double figure years, or even til I can barely walk! The Golf Pro at my course started at 16, so I could become a Pro! :) Wishful Thinking!

Cheers for the welcome :)

Welcome Adinik10 to the best forum on the net. Great PB of 89, I have recently broke the 90 mark and it's a great feeling. :D
Keep those great scores coming and your handicap will fall very quickly.
Keep on posting :)

.... I know your not going to be believe this when I tell you but....

It just had one about two weeks ago :D

Welcome aboard.

(member of a club and playing to 89 at 15! - mutter mutter jealousy mutter mutter not fair mutter mutter my mis-spent youth mutter mutter- boo hoo)

I do believe you as I have read people talking about a new makeover.

I was dead impressed with 89 as my previous best was 95. It shows how much you improve just by changing the swings to get a straighter drive.

A kid in the year below me at school palys off of 4, thats when you want to be jealous. I wish I was like him

Cheers

And another question. Does the more expensve clubs make a huge distance to the way ou play? I shot my 89 with a £200 boxset made by masters. And I seriously think if I had a better set of clubs I could shoot a lower round. But I don't want to look like an idiot with al lthese expensive clubs and paly really rubbish as when I see someone like this at my club I just laugh. Not golfing etiquette but it do find it really funny if someone has these top of the notch clubs but duffs his shot at the first tee.

You are going to fit in great mate, Welcome to the forum!

I think you'll be fine with your Masters set. I've seen their gear and most of it is a.o.k.

I'd wait a while before upgrading....most of us have stories about buying better/newer gear and it making no difference. If you were playing with old tech stuff, all knocked out of shape and totally unforgiving to poor hits, then you might do well to change. This doesn't seem to be the case.

Did you mean difference mate?

With regard to distance, depends on the clubs, loads of makes like Wilson Staff have de-lofted their clubs claiming the technology makes them go further when in fact the 8 is just a 9 iron in disguise.

Regard to difference, if your clubs are working, why change?

Welcome to the madhouse. I understand where you are coming from with the "all the gear and no idea" thing about standing on the 1st with flashy clubs only to top if 10 yards. If I were you I'd wait until my handicap started tumbling before looking at investing.

Welld one on shooting your PB and I hope it gets lower soon. Enjoy yourself on here

Welcome young fella. Another leftie - things are looking up.

Re the clubs. Stick with what you have got and don't even think about changing until you are threatening the low 80's. The best way to improve the quality of your play is practice and some lessons, not changing clubs that you are comfortable with.

Re the slice, all I can suggest without seeing your swing (oh for a video camera to see mine) is try to bring your left elbow in towards your body on the downswing and hit the ball from inside to out to try to promote a draw. Oh how I wish.....

Oh, by the way, are you a naturally left or right handed person? Just a little thing I am working on that the correct way for predominated right handed people to play golf/cricket etc is left handed and visa versa.

Hi, and welcome to the asylum!

I can understand your mirth at the 'all the gear - no idea' brigade. However, the gorilla headcover! Ah well I guess your age might explain that.

Anyway, good to see some young blood on here.

Well done on your PB btw.

Oh, and of course better / more expensive kit is the way forward, it makes you a better player, especially if it's custom fitted ;)

Release the hounds :D
