i just thought i would say hello, im new to the game ive been playing for about 3 months and ive had half a dozen lessons from the club pro. i have to say this game is as infuriating as it is satisfying. the problem i have with my game is lack of consistancy i can hit 10 balls straight and true but then the next 10 can be all over the place, im not sure what is going on but im sure it will work out.
just a quick question will the swing become more natural the more i play because at the moment it feels really weird and unatural also how do i get a handicap, not that im playing that much on courses yet but just for future reference. also this forum is great. loads of useful info.

Welcome John, You have chosen the best place to take your game forward in this here forum.

1. Carry on with the lessons, its the BEST thing you can do for your game.

2. The swing will fall into place with the lessons.

3. To get a handicap, you need to join a club and have a member with a handicap mark 3 cards for you. You can get handicaps off the net I beleive but they are not accepted everywhere.

THe swing will become more natural. Whether or not it will become more consistent is a different story but to be fair you have done the best thing possible by getting lessons straight away rather than ingraining bad faults. At least if you get the basics right at the very start you will have more chance of consistency than someone like me who has two or three faults ingrained that pop up every so often.

We all go through phases of hitting it well and then suddenly see the ball become directionally challenged and veer off all over the shop. That is the nature of the beast.

Not sure of the best way of getting a handicap now other than joining a club although there was a thread on it a week or so ago so if you look back through the pages you'll see it. Welcome to the forum and I hope you stay and participate regularly. Ask as many questions as you like you will always get an honest response and we are a friendly bunch on here so you'll always find a game.

Hi John,

I live in MK too. Abbey Hill is not a bad course, I haven't played Wavendon in more than 12 years, used to be a member there when it first opened but quit after they dug up the 18 hole after a year. I'm sure it's developed a lot and gotten better in that time. I do play the 9 nine hole there with my lad every so often.

There is also Windmill Hill down on the edge of Tattenhoe/ Bletchley, just off the A421. It's not bad either, I live about two minutes from it and can often be found on the range there. Although I like the Abbey and Wavendon ranges better, it's very convenient at Windmill. Chris is a pretty good instructor there too.

Not too far away is Buckingham, a nice course off the A421 the other side of Buckingham. The Three Locks on the way to Leighton Buzzard, haven't played that one in over 12 years either. Leighton Buzzard is a very nice course, I've recently joined it, I prefer it to Buckingham. One of the benefits of Leighton Buzzard membership is reciprocal golf, i.e. we can play free at Buckingham, Millbrook, Beds & County, Chiltern Forrest and St Neots golf clubs in addition to playing LB any time, a lot of variety for my money.

Regards
Bryan

welcome john, stick with the lessons over the winter and you'll be in good shape when the sun re-appears.

just type milton keynes golf clubs into google and it comes up with eight, and then you can move east toward Bedford or south toward Leighton Buzzard, Aylesbury and Luton - you're not short of a few.

Hi John

Not far away in "Sunny" Aylesbury.

Plenty to try around here. Aylesbury Vale (Stewkley) is only a short hop and is ok and Mentmore's not that far either.

Agree with Buckingham - nice track.

Good posting!

Hi John,

Welcome. I'm pretty new on here too but it's becoming somewhat of a distrasction at work, some real great banter amd discussions.

I work in MK just around the corner from Woburn... we won't be playing there without a handicap certificate and a spare few hundred quid!

Wavendon 18 hole course is pretty good for a muni. There are also some nice course over in Bedford area and Northampton. I particularly like Brampton Heath. In notrhants.

Give me a shout if you want to put a game together.
