Hi everybody,

My name's Andrew, and I'm just introducing myself to the forum. I'm currently doing a Masters in Sports Journalism, and one of the areas in which I feel I could specialise in is golf.

I currently play off a handicap of 8, which isn't three bad considering the amount I play I think! But whilst I love golf, I don't really follow the tour in any real depth, other than on sites like the PGA and BBC Sport. So I'm really joining to enter into a few discussions and just get a bit more interest in the goings on around the tour, which I'm looking forward to finding on here!

I also have my own blog, which is about sports in general, including the odd post on golf - although there hasn't been a topic on the subject for a while! Is there anything in golf that you think's worth a post?

If you get a minute and fancy taking a look, the address is...

Thanks again and speak to you all soon.

Andrew

Hi Andrew,

Your blog is pretty good, some decent stuff in there. Your points about the Singapore GP are especially valid (why do Allen and Burndle always make out that every race is the most exciting thing ever when many are just boring processions?)

Blog topics: you've already got a couple of good responses from two GM Forum "Legends": J_F and HJS. Here's a few more suggestions:

1. How have the improvements in club and ball technology changed the sport over the years ?

2. Do we need 7,000yd+ golf courses?

3. How is the golfing world coping without Tiger?

4. Why are so many clubs in the UK struggling to find new members

Good luck
Andy.

Welcome buddy, I have a suggestion.

Do people in mass still believe that golf is a game reserved for the rich man???

People down here think so, mind you they think you are a toff if you have a vague level of literacy in chatham!

Thanks for all the suggestions - it's much appreciated!

I think something along the lines of the credit crunch and it's affect on the tour will be good, as it's something that's not narrowly targeted at golfers and is quite generic for all reading.

I know the tour will be heavily reliant on Dubai for much of the income next season, but how much do you all think the economic climate will hit the tour?

I know the British and Irish Masters currently don't have sponsorship - do you think any events will fall foul and not have their place on the tour next season?

Realy quite profound for a newbie. But all really good stuff. Welcome.

I'm sure that the economic problems have got to have an effect on professional sports across the world. How can a 'nationalised' business continue to sponsor premiership football clubs, and the inflated wages that footballers are on?

Is it me or has there been a glut of newbies recently? It's good to have some new and different opinions and ideas.
