Earlier this week I was driving behind a Royal Mail HGV as it left the M25 and into our town. Most of the main roads leading to the town are dug up and therefore being diverted thru A-roads and built up areas. It was past 10pm and not much traffic around as it had been raining all afternoon and evening. It was just two of us for a while. I must say that it was amazing to see how effortlessly he was able to maneuver the HGV at that speed thru built up areas. He would cut over mini roundabouts and dodge parked cars with ease and it was as if he was driving a hatchback. I must say I was rather impressed with him. Usually they are guilty of holding up traffic, but good to see that with the right opportunity, he was a little Schumacher

It might seem like he was driving well but those things have the braking distance of a battleship (think about that next time you cut in front of one!!) so there is a good chance he was driving too quickly. If a child/dog/cat/old person stepped out in front of him, would he have been able to stop?

A mate of mine was an HGV driver and he said the number of cars he nearly flattened because the driver would dive into a gap in the queue approaching a roundabout or similar then brake hard in front of him was ridiculous!
