Hi all

Been offered a cracking deal to join Hever this coming year. I've played it once quite a few years back but don't really remember much about it, apart from it being very long!

Any thoughts or opinions?

Go for it! At least if it's conveniently placed.

A step up from Sweetwoods imo. Though my experience of both/either is a few years old.

Some really lovely holes and great views. Was always a joy to play there.

There's probably an(other) old fogey TM Driver fan on here who'd be prepared to invite you for a pre-decision round - though he'll probably turn his back on you whenever he hits the ball!

I played it last year and loved it. If my memory serves me right there is a little bit of Amen corner there I think. Me and and the guys who played there will defintely go back this summer.

Cracking course, played there a few times in societies.
Always remember greens were v quick.

Guess you'd need to try and play at the weekend to gauge what its like there as a member.

Played it once on a corporate day, a lot of years ago.

Remember it being a lovely course.

cheers for the thoughts guys....I'm playing it next week as a deal breaker.

Adam ,you will love it ,some great holes and very slick greens, and dont forget they have a nine hole course as well.
I have played Hever many times and its a long track ,the 17th hole being over 600 yds.
some really nice short holes ,the 12th sticks in the mind and the 13th needs a very accurate tee shot and second into an island green.
a quick tip ,on the 11th ,hit a hybrid off the tee ,a driver will be far too much bat as would a three or five wood ,its a blind tee shot but plenty of room wide but not long ,you might find a longer than wanted second shot ,but at least you will have a shot as opposed to a drop.
and the first green slopes away from you so its easy to go through with your second shot.
i would be very surprised if you dont join as it is a lovely course and has a great clubhouse.

timely thread as i'm playing at the weekend also for the first time as interested to see how it's standing up to the weather compared to my place.

have only heard good things about it although can't say i fancy the thought of the 600 yard 17th every weekend

i believe its 641 at its longest.and it plays every bloody inch of it.

Isn't Duncan a member there, and thinking about that, I've not heard or seen him for ages?

I played it last week and it was in relatively good shape for the time of year and compared to other local courses.

I much prefer it to Sweetwoods.

The things I don't like so much about it (number of corporate / society days) etc. would probably be common with Sweetwoods anyway.

The fairways and greens can be rock hard in the summer, too hard for my tastes, but on the other hand, they very rarely require temporary greens in the winter (other than for frost I guess) and he course is open a lot more than others in bad conditions, so on balance that's probably worth living with.

It's a beautiful setting and other than Gatwick bound planes, it's very tranquil.

Is that the hole with the pond on the left? That does ring a bell from the time I played before.....pond left, trees right and its all about laying up sensibly.

How bad are the planes? I've been a member of the Kent and Surrey (also Edenbridge) and Sweetwoods for the past few years now so seeing planes about isn't much of a surprise to me.

I'm looking forward to playing it, just hope the weather turns in the way they think it will!

the 13th is pond left trees right ,the 11th is a blind shot and the lake although sitting slightly to the left will collect a straight shot from the tee,it leaves you an uphill second into a long narrow green that slopes from right to left.

I wouldnt worry about aircraft noise ,no different to sweetwoods in that respect ,actually probably quieter as it is further from Gatwick and will be higher, cant say they ever put me off.

Hever is almost exactly the same distance from Gatwick as Sweetwoods as the crow flies I would have thought, perhaps a mile or two further away. The difference is that Hever is directly in line with the runway so all planes arriving or departing (depending on which direction they're going in) go straight over.

However, I agree they're not inconvenient, you're just aware they are there.

Played today.... Will be joining.

Quality course. Lovely facilities. Nice bar. Friendly members. Damn it's long though.
