While I was waiting to go out late morning I was approached by a Guy who told me he'd not long joined the club and needed to put a 2nd Handicap card in and would I mind if we played together...

No problem, he seemed like a decent bloke so we got on the tee and away we went.

Pretty slow going but nearly 4 hours later he had a putt for par on the last.
Earlier he'd said his first card was 85 (+16SSS) but he'd had a Triple so it was looking liike a start on 15. that 85 had also been his best ever.

I'd been keeping tabs on exactly what score he was on all the way round and didn't let on about how he was doing.

Anyway he just missed the par putt but made an easy 5.

I turned to him and said "Well Done, how do you fancy a handicap of 11!, unless you beat it for your 3rd card"

He'd just shot 80 for his best round ever and he was absolutely over the moon. That Par putt was for a 79.
We went in, had a drink and a chat and away he went with the biggest grin I've ever seen.....

A Good Day at the Office!:whoo:

Please tell me this isnt his first golf club membership, my egos just shrunk a little bit more.

He's been playing on and off for 10 years - Ex-forces and he played in Germany for a bit.
Hits it a mile!
Bit slicey but he aims it left and it comes back on the short stuff.

This will be his first handicap and Club

Good work Imurg... I struggled to get my 3 cards as very few members are available to go out with. Had to raise it club meeting, and now we have a new member's notice board.
We need more Imurg at my club. Having guys who shoot in the 70s will spoil the club average dramatically, so your new member may not be welcome here ;)

Legend!
Good on him and good on you!

Birchy has done exactly the same for me at out place (though my scores aren't as low).

The onboarding is shocking for new members so I can't thank him enough.

Will be making a similar suggestion as mentioned earlier as something needs doing - Pro gave it the big sales pitch about onboarding but hasn't delivered anything (funny thing is, was joining anyway as 1 min from house)

this happened to me, when i joined my club , from only just breaking 90 i shot 81/83 then 95(lol)

they were going to give me 11 until then had a change of heart and gave me 14 , to be honest if i didnt work away 11 would prob be achievable but theres no chance for only playing once every 2 weeks

When I saw the title, I thought you'd just helped your kid out

We need more Imurgs to take us around, what you doing tomorrow, I might do a supp ;)

Good work Imurg.

I marked a card for a new guy at our place at the weekend. It was his 3rd card, the previous two being +18 and +22. He didn't know how they worked it out so I explained the Nett double thing etc etc. He was 3 over at the turn, having parred 5 holes he'd never parred before. He ended up shooting +17 with 2 trebles. I couldn't tell if he was pleased or not when I said they took the lowest card and he would be playing off at least 15. I'm not sure he was expecting that. Nice fella though and it won't be long before he's playing off around 10 on the evidence I saw.
