First post and I hope this is in the right ssection please forgive me if it isnt

I hope you can help me

In 2005 my father passed away leaving me his old clubs , to be fair I had been using them for the 5 years before that, and still using them now , as dispite trying Pings, Calloway's and Titlest I cannot find one that has the same or better feel.

But as time goes by I am wondering if its possible to find any more information regarding his clubs , he replaced them with pro staff's , but he never realy got to grips with them and his game was never the same again , he was playing with a handicap of 6 at one point.

If at all possible can you give me any information regarding these clubs

The year of manufacure? RRP at the time?, anything at all?

I have only even seen one other set the same and that was for sale in Canada for $35 so I know there not going to make me rich

I have tried to contact RAM Direct but they were unable to help as the clubs were to old

But they gave me infomation about the prevoius owns of the name RAM a group called "Hilco" and based in Canada, but the trail ends there it seems

If you are happy with them then they are worth £1m but if you are just looking to sell them then I am sorry to say they are worth nothing. Ram is one of the low budget companys. The clubs will have been pretty cheep in the first place. they are now old and do not look to be in great shape. Sorry buddy, I would think you would have trouble even selling them. Remember though, if you like them then thats all that matters.

By the way, welcome to the forum.

Ram were never always low budget and in the 70's and 80's were producing some top quality blades which the likes of Tom Watson used for a while. It was only after the company got into trouble and was sold somewhere in the late 80's or early 90's that they began to produce nothing but lower end gear.

Alex Richard and Homer

thanks for your replies and welcome

Alex Just so its clear, I have no inttention of selling or parting company with these clubs

I was hoping for more information

I know there where somewhere arounds the early seventys I can remmber my father telling me that he purchased one a month when he first started to play golf

Each month he would buy a club and spend the next month using that club alone in a field practicing !

He was a very talented man making his own clubs as well

Putters and woods only, not irons

In 2002 one of his putters was sold at auction for just shy of £500
(edit ) sorry reading that through again it sounds like Bs I shall post up some pictures torrow and try to find the news paper clipings

Gosh, I got that way wrong, I had no idea RAM used to be a quality club, sorry for the total missdirection.

Great story about your Dad, I would love to see some pics of his stuff.

We will put it down to your youth ! Ram made some great clubs, and the Ram Zebra putter in the 70's was used if memory serves by Ray Floyd to win the Masters in 1976.

Which were still good selling top end putters well into the 90's. Ram only went downhill right at the end of the 90's I think.

Spalding and Dunlop used to make the best stuff around a few decades ago.

When i played a lot in the 70's McGregor were making fantastic blades. I had a set of Tourney Customs which were absolutely beautiful. Their persimmon woods were not bad either. Nice to see they seem to be making a strong come back.

I am sorry to say I cannot find the better Pictures at the moment , I think they are boxed away in the loft , but here are two just to show, please remmber each club was hand made to each indervidual owner balanced with toe or heel weights face angle and shaft length were also set for each owner !

And Nick Price in the 1994 Open at Turnberry if memory serves.

I had one of those Zebra putters and shot my best ever round of 69 with it.....

Just as a follow up on this I have now a little more information

hilco brought the interlectual property "Ram " but did no production this was then sold on to "The Sports Authorty" (TSA) but they also have no information regarding the clubs either.

so I am left in a bit of a dead end !

I have tried emailing the Royal and Ancient, but I am not hopeful of any reply ,

I have also searched theit web site , but again fruitless

If anyone has any other ideas please let me know

Or even if you have a contact at the Royal and Ancient , that might be useful

Thanks once again

Mark
