Not really into cars and there may be some experts on here as I am trying to get rid of My wife’s car privately.

It is a Kia Rio VR7 petrol on a 15 plate. The mileage is 4480 miles. Auto trader has a guide price of between £5/6000. taxed and MOT Mar21.

Any ideas where is the best place to advertise

worth trying to get a quote from webuyanycar , if they offer a decent enough amount saves the hassle of selling privately. If not then the classifieds in autotrader?

Try the "we Buy Any Car" site (they are owned by British Car Auctions so have quite a good database of current values. Treat is as nothing more than a guide/base. Be honest in your description as, if you down that route, they will push the value down!

I'm not suggesting you sell it to them but if you're worried it is hassle free. Try you local paper less likely to get tyre kickers or fraudsters.

I just finished the process of selling a car for my brother, started with an ad in facebook marketplace because it's free and I've had good responses there for selling generally, gave that a good week with one measly 1 sentence enquiry that went no further, so then went to Autotrader and paid £35 or so for a basic ad. In 3 weeks not one sniff of a buyer, not even an enquiry. Also asked around a bit locally.

This was for a very clean 2016 Honda and i was asking the Parkers going rate.

In the end we took it back to the dealer it was bought from and they gave us a fair price, £1500 more than webuyanycar offered, bit their hand off to get rid tbh.

Not sure if just unlucky or if the 2nd hand market is depressed.

Smiffy is the man to ask on here.

Last car I sold was via ebay. Classified ad is £19.99 with no additional fees. Payment to you is via whatever you agree with the buyer.

There are some websites that allow fee free advertising of cars - best way to find them is to search for a car to buy. From memory I think it is one free ad with the AA/RAC although that might have changed.

I’ve sold many cars privately, through Autotrader. Make sure car is clean and take decent photos. Ensure the description is open and honest, and don’t oversell using fluffy terms as ‘fully loaded’ (when it never is) or ‘best on Autotrader’, etc. My last three buyers bought the car because of the detail in advert and I could show that I cared for the car. And price it to sell. If you want to maximise price, sell privately, but may have to deal with time wasters. If you want low public hassle you can go WeBuy, but you will be continually knocked down on price.

My advice, for what it's worth, is to put the details into We Buy Any Car, add £500.00 to what they first offer and then stick it in Autotrader, (as others have mentioned), with some decent pictures.
It's not going to be the easiest car to sell, there aren't enough Kia Rio's around for "Joe Public" to know exactly what they are, for instance you say Fiesta, Focus, Golf or Polo and everybody knows what they are about.
Also, it's going to be in the price range where the vast majority of people are drawn towards buying from a dealer to get the benefit of a warranty, finance, (if required), part exchange etc.
Also, strange as it may seem, but that very low mileage might actually go against it. You'd be surprised, (maybe not!), how suspicious the public can be.
If you're in no hurry to sell then selling privately will be the best way to go. But be prepared for a long wait, and some silly offers.
If you do go the We Buy Any Car route, be prepared for battle. The car might well be in absolutely mint condition, but they will find fault with it and try to chip you down. The initial offer is to pique your interest and get you down there.
For God's sake do not try to sell it on FaceBook. You have been warned......

Re low mileage

I am always some one who is very wary of low mileage cars. To me it means they have probably done nothing other than short distance runs which can be damaging to things like the Cat converter.
