We are a small club and when we have roll ups on monday, wednesday and friday afternoons the numbers are dwindling so hows does your club encourage more people to turn up and play cheers in advance paul

My club doesn't. If you don't play, it's not the club that loses out. Roll-ups are member organised, so perhaps it's just that weekday afternoons aren't as popular as say a Saturday morning.

Evening Paul

Do you all just normally turn up and then pull the balls out and then just play ?

How about introduce an Order of Merit or maybe a year long ecelectic. Maybe have a running twos pot or put a little extra in each week for a Swindle night out.

Maybe on the Friday suggest everyone go out for a curry afterwards ?

We have introduced more games within the roll up meaning more people have a chance to win.

Front nine, back nine and overall
Combined par 3's and par 5's
4 Nearest pins
Rolling 2'a pot

Also our club really push the swindle to new members.

I really like the order of merit or eclectic games, maybe best ten cards to count over 12 weeks and have 4 leagues per year

Is it members only or would it be open to others maybe at a reduced rate to give them a feel of the club.

Phil suggestion of a running comp is good as it keeps the interest going.

If it is only members well then it would be up to members to sell the idea.

If you are a small club then I suppose you have small numbers as well so they will go hand in hand.

hi phil we go out in the order we turn up in getting to play golf is hard enough never mind going out for a curry after lol

Not been to one at our club, but Adam has been to a couple at the morning ones, sure he said it has an order of merit and believe the normal ones are mixed.

Other examples would be :-

My wife has been invited on several occasions in the car park by other ladies to their roll up during the week. The other lady members saw her in the car park and just came over to invite her.

Even when I/adam have played in a comps with others sometimes the other playing partners, have mentioned the rolls up and said come along etc.

Our club is very friendly, probably best I have ever been a member of.

Sometimes some people have to push it, to get others attending.

We have an OOM and it all leads up to big Xmas comp and dinner. Also play in pairs so if you're having a mare on one hole your partner will save you

We have a lot of players that turn up at different times but our roll up on Monday , Wednesday and Friday is one of the largest. We just have plenty of other days out and events that keep it fresh.
A small number needs something to keep everyone coming back. I would agree with those that suggest a form of competition that runs through the winter and another from say April 1st to Oct 31st. It could be an order of merit or eclectic.

Evening. Which club. Its a tough time of year especially if a club is on temps. Do any of the existing members have an explanation or maybe (and this isn't an accusation) members think it's too cliquey

We have a couple of midweek roll ups that are primarily played by retired 5 day members.

They're pretty well supported with around 6 tee times used, even through winter. Our membership is pretty low and factoring in the fact that it's mainly seniors that play it the pool is even less but I still doubt it's as low as yours Paul. Perhaps if you reduced it to two roll ups a week the numbers might increase per roll up, won't go down well with those who lose their favourite day but might prevent the whole thing from dying out.

I've played a few times in our midweek roll ups and there is a good spirit among the regulars which keeps the thing together and makes it a social event.
They generally all meet together pre-round at a regular time for a quick coffee, chat and the drawing of groups, anybody showing up late is added to the final group/groups.
After the game most will stay for another coffee and the results / exchanging of coinage.

Format is usually an overall best Stableford score of a pound per player and I think they have a twos pot of a pound per player also. Each group will also usually play their own game within their group, these are usually 4BBB as our course generally plays as groups of four which isn't great for pace of play but 4BBB is a great game for social golf.

For me it's this bringing together of the roll up into a bit of a social thing that keeps the players turning up each week.

I regularly play in a mixed roll up on Saturdays which is run along similar lines, it varies in numbers but usually 5 or 6 tee times are filled.

Could you change it from three to two roll ups a week? We only have one advertised roll up on a Wednesday and it's very popular
