i joined a golf and country club chain back in february they assured me that its not usually that busy and booking online is easy. 5 months on and i can never get a tee time unless its late afternoon and when i do get on it takes 4.5 hrs to get round because of congestion. to add to this the greens are horrendous. bald patches and as dry as gandi's slipper. the marshall told me today that they wont turn the sprinklers on because they are on a meter.

i did sign a one year contract. has anyone got any ideas on how to terminate the contract. i have tried complaining but it falls on deaf ears.

Hovis,
You'll have to tread carefully here. We had a similar situation at our place when one guy terminated his direct debit early due to poor conditions, club tried the softly approach without success and then went after him via SGU who then notified his new club and his handicap was suspended until he had paid fees at the old club. Think i would put in writing your complaints and ask for an interview and explain how unhappy you are and ask to be released from your contract.

Not something with the letters halmaDoy in the name is it ?

If you've signed up for a one year membership, then it's the one year I'm afraid. It would be the same at a private club if you tried to exit during the year. They would be within their rights to take the rest of the years subs from you.

Nowhere else that's near to you ? Many places are looking for members.

i've been offered a great deal at drayton manor golf club. i think they need members as alot left as this year they scarafied their fairways and pretty much trashed them. (they'll be back next year) and i can honestly say i dont spend much time on the fairways anyway.

i was hoping to get out of my contract as they are not giving the service i'm surely entitled to. i'll try and down load photo's

If you do join Drayton Park it's a far better course than Seedy Mill. I've only played Seedy Mill as part of our works society and found it to be very bland.

The big difference is that Drayton is a members club so tee times won't be a problem - played there many times with our B Team and we're always made to feel very welcome.

Unfortunately as previously stated it will be very difficult to get anything back as you have effectively entered a contract and you would have to prove that your current course was not fulfilling their part of the deal.

If you just stop paying they'll have you for breach of contract, but a contract works both ways and you need to gather the evidence about what you were told and when and by whom and get your legally assisted retaliation in first, as it sounds like a mis-selling job. Citizens advice might be able to give advise.

examples of greens are on a new post called ''my clubs greens''
Contact your golfing union by email , include the photos & get advice , or tell the club you are doing so , they might let you out for fear of been reported , if not then report them

I had a similar scenario at a former club.I wrote them a strongly worded letter, stating that the course and conditions were not what was advertised in the literature, and that if they couldn't provide me with what i'd paid for ,that i would cancel my membership and direct debit agreement.I cancelled my membership and direct debit 2 weeks after i'd sent the letter, and heard nothing from them.
