A major incident has been declared after the Eurocopter EC135 T2 came down on the roof of a pub in Stockwell Street.

The helicopter had a crew of three consisting of two police officers and a civilian pilot, it crashed into the Clutha bar on the banks of the River Clyde at 22:25.

Even now at 6am there is a huge presence of fire-fighters attempting to make the building safe to get people out.

Not looking good - news reporting fatalities and no hope of any more survivors.

Glasgow was mobbed last night, first night of Xmas party season.

Absolutely tragic...

The Wee Puddock, AKA Alex Salmond, is to hold a press conference today. WTF! What does he know about it??? Makes me furious how polititions muscle in on tragadies like this!

Tragic event, if something similar happened here, I'd expect Cameron to make a statement, the police afterall are directed and funded by our political masters.
As for Salmond, it's his job, someone voted him into the top job and it wasn't us down south

Thoughts with the families and injured

Can I ask why you are questioning Scotland's First Minister holding a press conference after a tragedy that has happened in Scotland and touched the nation so badly?

Your fury is bizarre.

Can we leave the politics stuff till another time please?

Now 8 confirmed fatalities...

Good question Dodger.

The people who brought the politics into it were those who criticised the First Minister for giving a reasonable and sombre statement that was perfectly within his remit as it would be with anyone from any walk of life.

Watched this awful incident unfold last night and felt sick as ive friends that way and also for the people involved..

Thoughts go out to the families of those caught up in this tragedy at such an awful time for it to happen not that anytime is right but you know what i mean..

I understand the context of what you mean.

However

There is no political gain to be made here. This is a clear tragedy in which the first minister of Scotland feels the need to speak on, and rightly so. I'm the least political person you'll find, but do appreciate when politicians show some genuine sympathy in time of a national crisis.

The Daily Mail website has a video on there showing 7 people being executed by Al Qaeda supporters... didn't get a mention on the forum. Accidents happen, tragic for those involved. RIP.

Regarding the politics of it all - there's enough people jostling for a 'political opinion' about it all HERE ON THE FORUM to not need to worry what the REAL politicians think.

Been thinking about this over the weekend, or specifically, the passers by and local residents that ran into the pub after the crash.Yup, ran into the pub. That kind of heroism and disregard for your own safety is something I'm not sure I possess.I'd like to think I would do the same, but I dunno. One guy ran into the pub and lay on top of a trapped guy to protect him from being trampled to death by people trying to escape.Or the pilot of the heli who pretty much sacrificed himself by turning off the fuel so no explosion...imagine what we'd be dealing with if aviation fuel had detonated.

There but for the grace of god go I.

Oh, some pretty weird posts on this thread too.

Hopefully now the helicopter has been removed, the emergency services can recover the remaining bodies and the families concerned can get on with the business of burying their loved ones.
