Afternoon all. I hope everyone's had a nice Christmas.

Just before the Christmas break I was hit with the news that I have Coronary Heart Disease. I've always been pretty fit (apart from the last 18 months when I have put nearly 2 stone on!) and am still only in my mid 30's. Awaiting the next steps from the hospital, but it's got me a bit worried about the long term affects etc.

I'm on medication, have a GTN spray for when I get a pain etc, and been told to take it easy (and avoid stress - which is easier said than done!)

Does anyone have any similar conditions / experience, and offer any advise on how they got on?

Cheers all

Sorry to hear about that. They can manage these things so well these days so hopefully you will get some great help.

Take good care of yourself.

April 2001 I had a major heart attack (on the course) age 52. Still here and still going strong(ish). Play golf 3 times a week, often still carrying my clubs.
Daily medication includes aspirin, ace inhibitor, beta-blocker and statins. Six monthly check up with GP, no problems.
Gave up smoking immediately, cut down on alcohol, eat better although I am still overweight, and manage stress better.

So I would say don't worry too much, you can survive these things and still enjoy life.

Cheers.

I am on daily and Beta Blockers for now. Awaiting a liver scan before they will start statins.

It's just taken my legs from underneath me to be honest, feel like life is over! Good to hear that people are still out and about playing after such things. If anything it might even focus me a bit more now as I do realise what is important in life and what isn't.

I'm similar age to you, really scary as you don't expect heart problems at our age. Good luck with it pal & try to keep your chin up:thup:

Cheers.

The psychological part is probably the hardest. You may start worrying that every day is going to be your last, I know I did, but then I started to think "So what if it is!"

I developed a whole new outlook on what things are important in life, this also helped with the stress management.

Silly really as 21 years earlier I climbed out of a wrecked car with only a broken arm. My point being we none of us know what fate awaits us so just focus on all the good things and the people that are important to you in life..

.

That is exactly were I am at the moment. It's been quite liberating actually! Got rid of my Facebook and Twitter accounts etc, realised that actually what is most important is the here and now with my family.

Cheers pal - glad everything worked out for you too.

im 52 and Ive got a Bicuspid aortic valve, which basically means that as I get older one of my heart valves is losing function and the docs reckon that within 5 years or so i will need a replacement valve.

Ive not got any symptoms at all, but as time ticks by you find yourself on the lookout for tiredness, shortness of breath and longer recovery times after physical activity.

Its a routine plumbing job and advances are being made every day, so im confident that everything will be OK, but its still a little bit scary, but there are plenty on here who have been through worse.

Follow medical advice and clean up your life laundry, get in shape through gentle exercise and play loads more golf as walking is one of the good things to do..... Just dont get stressed out if you hit one OOB :)

Sorry to hear that you have heart problems. Stress is a killer, unfortunately at my place of work they actively enjoy having everyone under stress. I seriously believe if one of us reported we had a heart problem then our manages would look on it as Job done. Total Pratt's every last one of them.

Quad by pass ten years ago. Doc keeps joking about it only having a 15 yr warranty. Still ski, golf, drink and stay merry. As has been mentioned before, the mind games need sorting but after that as long as you do as your told live life normally ish. Any problems PM me at any time in the future if you need a kick up the bum and a chat.

My dad had a heart attack a few years ago, got some stents and is doing really well now. Doctor actually recommended he keep playing golf for exercise for him but did warn him to try and not take it to seriously.

Most important thing he learned was to start listening to his body. Also worth getting a spare GTN for the golf bag.

Take care. Listen to your body.

Mother in law had triple bypass in Harefield. That went well but few serious side issues meant she now forced to have feeding tube. Nothing to do with the heart op more to do with the radiotherapy for throat cancer back in the 70's which seems to have damaged the throat which means she can't swallow.

We had a member of our club who had been putting off getting what was a fairly routine heart valve issue. He ended up in Harefield at the same time and a bit nip and tuck for a while but he's out again now. I'm sure you'll get good advice from your cardiology team Follow it, eat and drink sensibly and if you think something is wrong get it checked out. Not too many second chances where the ticker is concerned

Cheers everyone - really appreciate all the advise, feedback and general comments.

Looking forward to starting the new year a fresh and concentrating on the stuff that really matters. Thanks everyone!

Jeez. Feel for you pal. Like most on here have said, they are really making huge strides in heart treatments. You are young do have time on your side.

Take up Pilates or yoga. Hear its great for the stress and on the plus side, you get core strength and flexibility which help with golf. Now all you have to do is ignore any bad shots.

Good luck

Play more Golf!

The 'gentle' exercise is good for you while many of the 'treatments' can have adverse effects. That said stop smoking (if you do) and cut down on the alcohol!

Make sure the Golf Club has ready (and trained) access to a De-fib. It saved Bernard Gallagher!

Lol, thanks pal.

Don't smoke and only drink occasionally. Going to take up the advise on playing more golf, that's for sure!

Cheers all.
