Looking at the replays Courtois did look a but spaced when first hit which could have been a small concussion but medical staff clear them on the pitch - is that enough time for someone to be cleared ?

I think it was Lloris last year who suffered with concussion last year and still kept on playing

So should football join other sports and have stronger concussion laws - immediate substitution ? Not allowed to play for another a week or so

Or with the likely hood of it happening being smaller in football that they are not needed to be as strong as rugby etc ?

It was Lloris last season which has prompted a lot of the change that has been made. If I was the law makers in the game, certainly for a key position like a keeper there should be a rolling sub option and provided a doctor (not from either club) cleared the player to return they could do so. That doesn't have to apply solely to keepers of course. I think (but happy to be proved wrong) that there are now rules in place to stop concussed players playing the next game

I liked the way Jose dealt with it on Sunday, 'nothing to do with me, the doc made the decision'. That's the way it should be, the doc makes the decision and tells the manager he's coming off. Pretty sure if you're off with concussion you're automatically out for a week, could be wrong though.

Not sure about rolling subs though. Either you're off or you're not imo. :)

Just watched Sam Burgess smash his cheekbone after 6 seconds of the Australian rugby league Grand final.

Went on to play the full game.

Doubt he'd have come off even if he'd been told to.

Introducing rolling subs would do a lot for the game IMO and would make situations like this much safer to deal with.

Rules are in place already and it's a Medical issue whether to remove (as that can be dangerous) and/or replace.

I'd be a fan of 'free replacement' for head injuries.

It's a big problem in Ice Hockey mainly due to the high speeds

Some guys are out for entire seasons or more for concussions I.e Marc Savard, Chris Pronger etc

Those guys are one hit away from real serious damage (in Chris Prongers case he can barely function as a human being and has been that way for a while, constant headaches, vision problems etc)

They have a very quick response to head injuries during games etc and guys are usually taken out of the game for further attention because concussion symptoms might not appear right away in some cases it's days before anything comes to light
