Well today I went for card number 2, had a good feeling about today. Oh how wrong can you be! Worst round in six months carded 118!!!
I can take some positives driving overall was respectable for my standard, hit 3 monsters for me in the 200-270 range (I'm not timgolf) but course very dry so plenty of roll. Putting not as good as last week but consistent and with in 2feet of pin with first putt 90% of the time. My irons are letting me down big time, typical as last year irons fine and woods were best left at home! Anyway got lesson booked for tomorrow so hopefully some insight there!

Got that off my chest anyway!

Couldn't have been easy in that heat, just get then cards in abd don't worry about it. Most people's first handicap doesn't reflect their true ability and once your used to playing with the pressure of a card the scores will drop along with your hc, everyone has to start somewhere ;)

Yeah my playing partners keep saying just whack em in! I suppose it can only go down! I know I have it on me as can hit the shots it's just doing one after the other that's the hard part!

It's just pressure mate, when it was my turn last year I was shooting 78/79/80 every time around my place (par 68), stick a hc card in my hand and I was trying silly shots I couldn't do to recover from trouble, and then losing faith in the shots that were my strength, instead of shooting +10-12 I think for hc I shot +20 with my first card for no other reason than pressure.

Rule 1 - enjoy it
Rule 2 - play your strengths
Rule 3 - take your punishment
Rule 4 - enjoy it some more

It's amazing how when you just chill and smile, the scores come ;)

Don't worry about it. I got far too precious when I first started handing cards in. Look at it this way when it clicks (and it will click) you'll start coming down and come down quick enough you'll be clearing up silverware left, right and centre!

Keep us posted :D

I didn't feel under pressure but sub consiousley I must have, I learnt to take the punishment as stopped trying to pull of recovery shots seve would be proud of and just chip out sideways etc. Still loving it just those few shots a round that keep us crawling back, I'll let you know what the pro says later! Also got card 3 planned for next Friday unless I can get on before!

Don't worry too much. Even if you get 28 to start so what. The only way is down from there and you know there is the game to get lower in there. Relax as much as you can on the last card and let the game flow

handicap reflects overall ability at that time, you may be able to hit an immense round to say mid teens but how often? as per the lessons post, practice and confidence will see the swing and game improve and the scores come creeping down along with the handicap.

Enjoying it is the most important factor :p
