IMurg has been incredibly patient with my play over the last few weeks, he has put up with very bad putting, thinned wedges around the green, duffed irons on most holes, not to mention the disaters off the tee with my driver. But Ian has been great he has offered support and kept me going when things were looking pretty grim. he even joined the club a few weeks ago and has marked my handicap cards for me, all in all a great bloke.
He even kept a smile on his face when my game improved a little and I managed to get a few more points than him over the 18 holes, but today this great game of ours hit back.

I'd been measured up for a new driver, I had the wrong shaft, last week and today was the second time out with it. Played the first couple of holes and Ian was a bit scrappy starting with an 8! 3rd hole is an uphill par 5, I hit a scorcher right up the middle, Ian carved one into the long stuff to the right...... and so his round went, then the cruelest part. Ian had regrouped at the 10th gaining a point, then a lovely drive (at last) on the 11th, things are looking rosey, but we halved the 11th with only a point each! Then the par 3 12th, I hit an 8 iron, one bounce short of the green and a lovely roll straight into the cup for a hole-in-one! Ian lipped out for a birdy.
Then the wheels came off for him 3 off the tee at the next and wide drives at the 14th, 16th! Finnally getting it together at the last 4 holes where he scored 9 points!
A great round for me, but I couldn't ask for a better partner to share the enjoyment of a hole-in-one.

When are you 2 announcing your engagement?
Sounds like there's lurve in the air to me :D :D
Many congratulations on your hole in one (said through gritted teeth. 40 years and never had one.)

I played with a fella in a four ball yesterday and he has had 3 hole in ones, yesterday he hit the flag......

I bet he is pig ugly?

I played a 36 hole comp at Sleaford yesterday with 81 competitors. (Fantastic course )
12th hole 208 yds straight into a strong wind. The 2 guys I played with missed the green twice, I hit it twice with a driver leving putts over 60ft each time. (we were off 4, 8 & 9 hcaps). Setting the scene then, a bl***y tough hole.
Came back in at the end of the day to find 1 guy had a hole in one on it. Fantastic effort.

There's no shame in a post entitled "I had a hole in one YIPPEE!!!"

Many Congrats, hopefully the first of a handful.

I was puzzled. The last time I played Sleaford, I hit an 8 iron at the 12th.

Just for a second there I thought I was a driving God or you and your mates were rubbish.
I've just checked the card of the course and the 15th is 208.
Your right though, that hole is a toughy into the wind. :)

Ok - its time to be honest now.

CVG's Hole-in-one just rubbed salt into an already gaping wound in my game. Standing on the tee I honestly had no idea where the ball was going to go - it was one of those days. Colin was fairly predictably up the middle or just off the fairway. I totalled 9 points on the front. 9 - pitiful. Hit my best drive of the day on 11 and buggered it up after that and then came the moment. Talk about hitting a man when he's down. To be fair it was a great shot and thoroughly deserved but at that moment I could have throttled him! How could he do this to me - after all I'd done for him. Utter Utter Utter .........!!!!!!!(Expletive deleted!)

The thing that nearly got him a right hook was this. As we walked to the 13th tee he looked at me and said " I quite enjoyed that!" (Expletive deleted!)

I am now retiring from the game for a week or 2. Work and then holiday mean an enforced break which will probably help - can't make it any worse - no really it can't.

Well done Col. My turn next!!

Ian,

I share you pain. 11 points on the back 9 in captains day and 30 in total. Had a shank with a 9 iron and didn't know where the next one was going although in most cases it wasn't going to be pretty wherever it finished.

CVG congratulations on your ace.

Imurg/Homer, oh thank you. Your problems with your golf over the weekend has cheered me up, glad to see I wasn't the only one having a mare.

Not wishing bad on anybody but we often hear about our great days but not many post their bad days (although 30 doesn't sound that bad) Played with a couple of friends on Saturday and was delighted to record 37 points with 2 blobs, so I was looking forward to our Monthly Medal on the Sunday.

Started slowly and ended up taking an 8 (par 5) with 6 shots from no more than 60 yards, and then shanked my drive at the 5th. But worse was to come on the 6th, another long par 5, drive to the right fairway fringe only to crack a huge shot left onto the 14th fairway (going in the opposite direction) Now have a shot over thick trees towards the green, hit a peach of a sand wedge towards the green. I then walk back down the 14th fairway and then along the correct 6th fairway looking for my ball, only for my two playing partners to say they hadn't seen anything. Lost ball, so I am out of the comp, not so much worried about that as I don’t think I'm in with a chance anyway but its was just so annoying.

Obviously all I can do is carry on playing and see what my stapleford score will be. Well my 12 points going out is match by my 12 points coming in and my 37 points on Saturday seem a long time ago. Unlike me, as I normally shrug these type of things off in 10 minutes or so. It goes through my mind as I explain my day to the good lady wife and how annoyed I still am several hours after I get home.

Is it to much golf, 5 rounds in 9 days? I have decided not to have my late afternoon round today, but instead go to the driving range for some practice, and if that goes well, I will put myself forward for another 2 day stint this weekend.

Went to the range last night. I've now got what Tiger called a "bandaid" swing. Its held together by plaster and the only way I can get a consistant swing is to turn the left foot out a touch and try and focus on keeping the legs stiller an swinging in much flatter and from the inside. Its working (to a degree) and I've got the ball going forward with some draw and the occassional hook. Its not textbook or pretty but with comps coming thick and fast now (mid-season) is not the time to be making huge swing changes.
