I'm just wondering if anyone has ever taken a short break from golf that has ended up being longer than planned?

I'm trying to make time for a round after nearly 5 weeks away, originally after saying I was "taking a week off" following a bad round. I then twisted my ankle at work which took 2 weeks to sort itself, only to have an issue with a cracked bath meaning I'm now installing and decorating my bathroom from scratch.

To top it off I now have a busy few weeks in the diary meaning I might not be able to play until the end of september.

The original break now seems like such a stupid idea and I'm itching to get back on the green stuff with the bats.

I'm just wondering if anyone else has had a lengthy uncontrollable absence from the game.

better get back to the course quick it feels like winter is coming up north!

no i havnt took a long break 3 weeks max for me but i was on holiday in the states instead

a few months turned into 6 years for me barring the occasional society outing each year. Rejoined with the same handicap funnily enough. Played off 6 but slowly got worse having kids and no practice time. Getting better again slowly but surely. :)

Had a whole year off when I shattered my ankle in 2004. I'd already cut right down on Golf due to The Boy appearing but this put me back even further.

I stopped playing in 2007 due to back problems, decided to have another go in 2008,but ended up playing only 4 rounds before putting the clubs in the attic again.
Got the bug again about 3 months ago,and started playing again about 5 weeks ago.I've had a few rounds in the 70's,but have no consistency off the tee,and absolutely no feel with my chipping and putting.Hoping to find something resembling my old game, over the winter.

given the length of your breaks from golf I now feel a touch better about my break.

Given the amount I've spent in such a short period of time getting into the sport I couldn't justify a long break and would probably force a round out of the diary fairly soon.

I moved across the country a few years ago the day after a club champs. Never hit another ball for 5 years. Just really enjoyed the break and I didnt miss it one bit. Until I watched Harrington win his 2nd Open and it got my juices flowing again.

I was looking forward to the summer holidays as wife of as she's a teacher and could get in 2 or 3 rounds a week, the result was not playing for six weeks! This Saturday will be my second outing since 10 of July! Had two weeks abroad and didn't play the week before, got back and had a week at work, followed by a couple of busy weeks with kids birthdays and other stuff! It just flys by if you get out of the habit of playing, I've been climbing the Walls these last couple of weeks! And to top it off the weather is pants now!

I injured my back last season, started playing too soon again so the back was really goosed. Promised myself that i'd take a whole year away from the game, including the GM forums as coming on here made me sad/jealous of anyone playing.

I've lasted until a couple of days ago.

Feel like i've never been away!

Six years break for me. In my late 20s I had a sudden urge to convince myself I was still in my teens. Took up rugby again for the first time since leaving school, got into it in a big way and was in the gym 5 days a week downing Maximuscle shakes like they were going out of fashion, training two nights at the club and playing on a Saturday.

After getting smashed to pieces playing rugby every Saturday, the last thing I could do was swing a golf club. When I did play the occasional summer game, my body shape had changed so much it felt like someone else was swinging the club.

I knew I'd always come back to golf when this little experiment was over, so I wasn't overly worried about not playing.

Not played since may and can't see me playing again this year based on the weather.

If the clubs don't call me by April they'll be in the for sale section in May.
